They picked Pogge because of recency bias. He just won with the WJ team.

Rask was named top goalie at that very same tournament, so, really, there should not have been any recency bias. They "picked" Pogge because the scouts and other members of the front office couldn't talk JFJ out of making the trade. The story is that pretty much everyone was against it, and they knew Rask was the better prospect, but JFJ had made up his mind about the deal, and, well, here we are.
They said they'd be hung for trading away Canadas hero. Also Chiarelli pushed for Pogge as a rouse. He eventually relented and they went for Rask instead - JFJ was happy to oblige at that point.

But hey... if that didn't happen maybe we wouldn't have the AAA management team we have now. I think that might be more important. Things got so bad that the organization actually changed its ethos.

I don't remember hearing that story. Thanks!

We really do have an all-star management team now. There is no denying that. If this executive group can't get the Leafs back to respectability in the league, I can't imagine a team of managers who could.

Now, we just need a bit of luck at the lottery draft, and a bit more in coming years with picks, and we should have a nice sling shot effect up the ladder that should last for years to come.

Can we really say this now?  :-\

Sure, they seem to have made the right choices, however, until we see some real success on the ice, can we really proclaim that our management team is all-star worthy?  :o

Well, they did bring in Babcock.  They did get rid of Kessel and Phaneuf.  They signed Kadri and Rielly to pretty decent contracts.  So, yeah, not bad so far!  ;D

The draft lottery is scheduled to take place between 8:05-8:20pm on Saturday. CBC will have it on it's broadcast and Sportsnet will stream is online.

I would think 60 seconds would be appropriate. "The draft selection order is the following..........."

The dramatic reveal could be dispensed with.

At least if they end it with an extended, 'taking it like a champ', Lucille inspired barrage, it'd be over in 60 seconds.

Friggin' 4th OA it is.

They should show the lottery balls get picked but not tell anyone what the numbers mean.  Then run through the draft and show a 10 minute highlight/lowlight clip of the draft selections at each number in the draft.

Haven't never watched one of these before, what do they do?  Do they countdown from picks 10-1 or something?

That's what they did last year, opened up envelopes of all the teams from 14th-1st until they opened the envelope of the team who won the lottery.

But with 3 separate lotteries technically taking place I'm not sure if it would make sense to do it like that this year.

They do the actual lottery behind closed doors, but it'd be to see see that actual process to reveal the winners of each spot. Even if they're just recreating the behind-closed-doors lottery. Have the pinballs shoot up and show which teams have the best odds after each ball comes out. Would make for good television.

They'll likely do the same thing. They'll just run all 3 lotteries before they "dramatically" deliver the envelopes.

So if they get to #4 and it's not the Leafs we can officially get excited.

Yes, although the worst possible thing would be if they skip a few names in the 5-14 range before getting to the Leafs.

That would be cruel as would announcing all the selections except leaving 1 and 4 for last.

The rankings of the top-15 have changed somewhat again here:

My boy Chychrun has been bumped down again.

I am sort of warming up to the idea that the worst case scenario for the Leafs is having to decide between going forward with a Marner-Tkachuk duo or a Nylander-Nylander duo.

Or, I guess, Dubois or Chychrun.
