2017-2018 NHL Thread

https://theathletic.com/454869/2018/08/02/nhl-front-office-confidence-rankings-fans-weigh-in-on-how-each-team-is-doing/

Dom polled subscribers on how they'd rate NHL front offices on the following metrics rated out of 5, showing the breakdown between general public opinion and fan base opinion:
Roster Building
Cap Management
Draft/Develop
Trading
Free Agency
Vision

It was absolutely delicious to see the bottom 4, as well as the top 4.

Rank these contracts from best to worst. Or I guess least bad to most bad.

People often bring up Fingers contract as an example, and it was. But I think he delivered at least a bit more value than some of these guys.

I don't use this term often, but, lol Oilers:

I feel a little bad for Sekera, that'll be two injury-riddled seasons in a row for him now.

But on the bright side, he doesn't have to play in Edmonton. Tearing an achilles seems worth that.

Yoiks.

I actually forgot his new AAV was $10.5mil. It's not even really a front-loaded contract either, he'll still be making $7.5mil at the age of 38.

Thing is, I really do think he has the potential to be the most impactful player in the entire NHL in a given year. But between injuries and age there's a real question as to whether or not he'll even play one year at that level.

Goalies are playing longer now though, right?  Not Bower old, but still.

Lundqvist is 36, Rinne 35...Luongo is 39, but he's hitting a wall.

Can you believe that Tuukka Rask is 31 !?!

The King is dead in my opinion. Tuukka... where is Justin Pogge? You have chosen... poorly.

Is that actually a new development? Seems to me like top level goalies have always hung on around that long. Hasek, Brodeur, Cujo, Belfour, Vernon...

You could very well be right, I really didn't look into the history of it.

But I guess the point I was trying to make was that it wouldn't be unusual if Price played really well for years to come, even into his mid-late 30's.

Carey Price has a history of knee and other lower body injuries, so I'm not sure how long his body lasts in a position that is so heavily dependent on lower body flexibility and mobility.

It also feels his injury situation seems worst then it probably actually is because of the way MTL management communicated his injuries to the media. Always down playing his injuries and implying he would be back soon when he wasn't even close to a return. Led everyone to theorize and sensationalize.

Marc Bergevin shakes the hockey world with a blockbuster:
