2018-19 Trade Talk

Or if I was Nashville I would be willing to do Subban, another lesser D, and an above average center. I would do that for greater chance to win now.

I'm not sure what you mean by above average C, Johansen and Turris are really the only guys Nashville has that would fit that bill. Regardless, I'm pretty bummed about that if I'm an Oiler fan.

Doubt there would be any trade that Oilers fans aren't bummed about but adding Subban and Johansen IMO woukd make the Oilers a better team.

I'd give up Kadri or Nylander with Matthew's for McDavid.

Eh. At that point I'd pass.

Kadri? Maybe, especially if Matthews' cap hit doesn't come much less than McDavid's. But Nylander? Yeah I'd pass too. Even if we decide to move Nylander I'd hold out for a top pairing righy.

Yeah, see, at that point it's where I think it stops being a good trade for Nashville.

Oddly I'd rather include Nylander and keep Kadri. But I admit I would not have signed Nylander to present contract as I don't see him as a core piece.

I think both teams would be better after the trade.

I'll confess freely that at least part of my reluctance has to do with liking Matthews and a general belief in dancing with the one that brung you but honestly I'm just not 100% convinced that a Leafs team with McDavid but without Matthews and one of those other guys is a better team and if you're throwing a hand grenade into the dressing room like that, I think you need to be 100% sure you're winning the trade talent wise.

And interestingly I think it's a trade that wouldn't really help either team.

Johansen in particular is someone I'm just not super high on unless you're pairing him with a really top flight goal scorer.

And I'll confess part of mine is believing Matthews doesn't want to be in Toronto long term based on nothing but feeling and Passport??? Hopefully I'm wrong??

Yeah, for the life of me I can't understand why you've been pushing that so hard(and basically since he was drafted if I'm recalling correctly). No matter how much the guy says he likes it here, no matter how much it seems like he wouldn't like being in a smaller market...there's really just nothing there.

Ah well, I guess you'll just have to be convinced by his extension.

I definitely haven't pushed it since draft but have written that he doesn't look comfortable to me but admit he looks much more comfortable this season with media. So really as I have written before it could have just been his personality??

Or your perception of his personality.

Thought that was obvious as I don't actually know any if them??

Which makes it a very interesting foundation upon which you propose personnel changes, as opposed to more concrete information (performance).

Matthews for Mcdavid, yeah I'm comfortable making that for whatever reason I dream up. Throwing in Nylander to make it happen, yeah I'm still happy.

You should become an Edmonton fan.  I think you'd see eye to eye with Chia.

I definitely see that comparison??? SMH

You can shake your head all you want, trading Matthews + Nylander for McDavid is just stupid.  Much like most of Chia's moves.

It's a Cap world. Mcdavid is the best player in that world. I would take his cost certainty over an overpaid Nylander and an unknown Matthews contract. I believe Chia would be closer to trading Nylander for Benning territory.
