2018 IIHF Men's World Hockey Championship

Team Canada got by Team Latvia 2-1 in OT on Connor McDavid's winner.
It took a 3 on 3 OT to get the job done, thanks for the combination of McDavid, Nugent-Hopkins & Aaron Ekblad.

"Those guys are so deadly with the puck, especially with Connor's speed," said Canadian forward Ryan O'Reilly. "The way he beats the guy up the wall and creates a scoring chance and ends the game, it's definitely dangerous. That was huge, getting that goal."

With the win, Canada assures herself of a berth in the Quarter-finals.

Team Sweden subdued Team Latvia 3-2 and will play Team USA in the Semi-final.  The Latvians played hard to the end and impressed their opponents. Perhaps Sweden's Flip Forsberg said it best:

"They were really tough against Canada, really tough against the US, obviously Finland was a little disappointment for them but every other game was close, their goalie's been playing great so it was as hard as we thought."

Team Switzerland stunned Team Finland 3-2 and a trip to the Semi-final against Team Canada.
Swiss goaltender Leonardo Genoni faced 34 shots but backboned his team to victory in helping his squad keep their lead.  The Swiss scored three goals in a span of four minutes in the second period and kept it that way until game's end.

The loss was Finland's first in since 1972 against Switzerland.  The highly-favoured Finns were simply stymied in attempting a comback, in large part thanks to Genoni even though Finland had more PP advantages.

"We started playing our game in the second period," said defenceman Roman Josi. "We scored a couple of quick goals and that put us in the right mindset. We are going to enjoy the win tonight and go back to Copenhagen and prepare for our game. It will be another big challenge for us going against the Canadians."
