2018 IIHF Men's World Hockey Championship

Team Canada, led by Connor McDavid and Ryan-Nugent Hopkins, routed Team Denmark 7-1.

McDavid had three assists while Nugent-Hopkins had two goals in empowering Canada past the Danes.  Maple Leafs netminder Curtis McIlhennet tended goal.  No Frederik Andersen (Maple Leafs) for the Danes.  Sebastian Damm got the start instead.

Frederik Andersen has faced 80 shots on goal in just two games into this tournament.  That obviously was the reason for the goalie decision against Canada.

Preliminary Round:  Saturday May 12

Team Finland vs Team Canada; Team Sweden vs Team Slovakia; Team Germany vs Team Latvia;  Team Belarus vs Team Austria; Team South Korea  vs Team Denmark; and Team Switzerland vs Team Russia.

Team Finland's usage of an all-forward unit on the power-play worked to it's advantage in helping to secure a surprising 5-1 win over Team Canada.

Finland had nine PP opportunities in going to show the Canadians' march to the penalty box.  Of course, that is not to say that Canada didn't have plenty of man advantage opportunities. They did but the Finns took better advantage of theirs.

Canada's goalkeepers didn't have one of their better games as both McElhinney & Keumper could attest.  Then again, overall it wasn't one of  Team Canada's better games.
Canadian scorers were Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Bo Horvat.
