I usually support the use of advanced statistics and use them to inform my takes, but holy smokes you can see how much gap there is between reality and the analytics sometimes when Boston only had 1.83 xGF (All situations) last night.

Watch the highlights and tell me how many of those chances the goalie should have stopped- heck COULD HAVE stopped.

And yet, the takes seem to be.... goaltending did them in?

Some of those goals were the result of poor reads by the goalie that resulted in better scoring chances than they should have been. The Marchand goal especially sticks out - Price goes for a pokecheck/slash/waiving his stick in the air instead of following Marchand across the front of the net. Pastrnak's goal at the beginning of the 2nd was also stoppable - it was a good shot, but not an unstoppable one. It just went right through Price.

Wow, Charlie Coyle gets just $1.4mil less than Pasta. Bruins must be awful at negotiations.

That's Coyle contract is going to look like trash fairly quickly imo.

Come on.  It's Boston.  In 2 years he will be scoring 40 goals a year because apparently all of their players hit some stupid next gear after signing long-term extensions.

I like Coyle. I thought that term was a bit crazy at first, but I can also seeing it work out just fine for them. By the time he really declines, the cap hit should be palatable/moveable.

On a somewhat similar tip, what's happening with PK Subban is really bizarre. Defensemen can lose a step, sure, but he's 30 and has gone from being one of the best offensive defensemen to being on pace for a Mike Komisarek-esque year.

New Jersey?s season has been quite a wild ride. They should just hang onto Hall for the 1st overall pick again.

Saw Korshkov throw a few today at the Marlies game. He doesn't back down from anyone.

Got ya. I think if he came over earlier he'd be in the NHL now. I like him and I think he'll make it.
