2019-2020 NHL Thread

Regardless, it's a little early in his career to bite the hand that feeds.

Eh. As evidenced by Carlton's post above everyone is always just looking out for themselves here. Besides, I think most fans wouldn't really care if one of their guys begged off the All-Star game provided they really were out there resting up.

Now the owners may care but that's just because they see the All-Star game as a giant corporate schmoozefest where they can entertain their sponsors and in that sense I don't care if they feel shortchanged.

On a no risk deal like this I actually kind of like the move. Bring him in, see what he can give you and cut ties if it's a problem.

Maybe it's just a 1 in 10 chance you get an energized, motivated Kovalchuk but even then?

It's definitely not helping the HHOF case I absolutely think he has.

I think it makes a ton of sense for Montreal, zero risk here. I'm more surprised that Kovalchuk picked them, unless literally no one else was interested. I really thought him and Pittsburgh would have been a good match, especially since they're short a winger with Guentzel out now.

I think that if you're in a better position the way Pittsburgh is there's probably going to be less of an interest in taking a chance on a guy who could prove to be a headache.

Funny stat, Kovi was like 4th or 5th on LA for pts/60 mins. I guess the major problem was he didn't bring much else for the Cap hit.

Yeah I see your point. But it's not like there's been reports of Kovalchuk being a dink through the whole LA thing. Kopitar even talked him up as being a really good teammate.

Same here. He was really a great player. I always thought his defensive game was underrated.

Interestingly, it's a two-way deal, that pays him the league minimum for the AHL if he's sent down. Definitely low risk. To borrow a phrase, Kovalchuk is betting on himself.

I mean I'd imagine if he was ever waived/loaned to the AHL he'd be off to Russia even if it was a 1-way deal.

Probably, yeah.

Roll of the dice for Habs, no risk.  Hopefully it works out just enough that they finish just outside the playoffs and draft 15th

Please retire already, Corey Perry.
Dumbass play from him with the elbow to Ellis' head. Suspension coming for sure.

Amazed the league has handed down a full 5 game suspension for that. That's almost...rational.

Perry's going to be even more PO'd when he realizes that the suspension will include his first game in Anaheim.

That was an easy one for the league. Perry has been suspended twice before(4 games each) for head shots so this is his 3rd time. He's  lucky he only got 5 being a repeat offender for the same infraction.
