2019-2020 NHL Thread

What a joke.

Definitely, but I'm a bit surprised by the... surprise. DOPS has been suspending to the severity of the injury since forever, regardless of how dangerous the action. My memory isn't great, but racial stuff aside, has there been a longer suspension for any action in which there wasn't any injury sustained?

In fairness to the league, there is some tap dancing with the PA on these suspensions.

I think the league and the PA need to get together on some standards here.

Kane has some leverage given the PA can appeal this stuff, but the league really doesn't have anywhere to go here in terms of standards or precedents that they've all agreed to.

It's a tough situation, and maybe Parros & co. is just trying to ensure that these decisions don't become a consistent bunch of appeals...Maybe.

Re: Kassian

After the game, Kassian told Mark Spector that ?(Cernak) was holding my leg, it was reactionary, I was just trying to get him off me, kick him off me.?

At least he was honest about kicking Cernak, though I?m not sure that?s going to wash at the hearing. Kassian is also coming off another recent suspension for the Matthew Tkachuk flap, which doesn?t bode well for the Oilers enforcer, either.

Though a lack of injury to Cernak works in Kassian?s favor, it?s the intent that is disturbing here. Had Cernak bent over even slightly when Kassian went to kick him, we could have seen a death on the ice ? and that?s not hyperbole; he could have slit his throat. It doesn?t take much force for razor-sharp skate blades to do damage and Kassian should know that.

Excuses, excuses, excuses on the part of Kassian here.  It could have ended up much worse but thank goodness it didn?t.  This idiot Kassian should be give minimum 20 games.

This was pretty brutal...one cross-check after another.  Oh wait, it?s...Marchand getting his dues worth:

Did anyone know that Darren Helm's NTC with the Wings has some pretty creative stipulations in it (via @iyer_prashanth):

Kaberle had a conditional NTC way back when.

I think it was just based on making or missing playoffs not TOI though.

Kaberle and Kubina both had similar NTCs - if the Leafs missed the playoffs, they had no trade protection that off-season.
