So insanely irresponsible of the organization.
I don't agree and neither does Mikheyev....taken from his twitter...

I understand there is a lot of debate about my decision to play with an ACL injury. Here are the facts: when I was injured in the preseason, I went through several tests and realized I could play without causing any more damage. That?s what I wanted to do.

Twice per week, we consulted with team doctors about how things were progressing. Never did I feel pressure, never did I feel worse. It was my decision. Finally it reached a point where I wanted to be ready on time for next year.

If I continued to play, I wouldn?t be ready for training camp. I appreciate everyone?s concern, but I have no complaints with the way this was handled.

This reads like a hostage video script.

So, the New York Rangers, eh?

Do they have anyone in HR or even PR on these teams at all?

Speaking as a gay leafs fan, living near Philly with a bunch of gay friends who organized to attend pride night together in Philly:  the positive way to view the Provorov situation is that 19 of 20 players (95%) supported gay pride on flyers pride night.  It?s a shame that one guy became the dominant media focus rather than the 19 supportive guys.  Huge props from me to the Flyers organization for overwhelming support of their gay friends and fans.

Shame people like to focus on the negative.

That?s why I feel that the NYR situation was ?worse? than the Provorov one. Maybe I?m wrong? It feels like it?s a sign that it?s more of an institutional issue than individual beliefs? And I know the Philly one was more driven by players.

Right. The Rangers are afraid of a PR issue. It?s a shame.  It?s a step back.

I played on a gay hockey team in NYC for a while. They have a bunch of gay teams there and the rangers have plenty of gay fans. I?m sure 95% of the players are supportive.

So because Provorov was a dick now other teams are afraid of their players refusing to wear pride jerseys.  What a bloody mess and a step backwards.

I think this sort of goes to what I was saying about the Provorov thing where to me the issue was never really Provorov's views on the subject, I don't think anyone is naive enough to really think that all the teams who had no issues with having a pride night are composed exclusively of guys whose views on respecting non-traditional sexual identities are 100% where we diehard Communist Wokeratis might like them to be, but rather how it put his team and the league in a difficult spot. Putting yourself before the team, we're told, is the ultimate sin in hockey but now the league is in a spot where their efforts towards inclusion(which I'm cynical about but I respect anyone who isn't) are effectively derailed because so long as a single player share's Provorov's stance there's no way for their team to have a positive headline come out of a similar effort.

I don't think too many conclusions should be reached about any one year-to-year shift in ratings but I don't think anyone could deny that the League has some real issues right now.

They need a new commissioner.  New thinking.  Talk about a guy way past his expiry date.

Any new guy "they" get will just represent "their" interests. "They" are the problem.

I have lost interest in watching regular season games because, at the all-star break, I already know who the Leafs will face in the first round of the playoffs.

Obviously there are 1st round matchups that are preferable. Going into the final week of the season under the old format, those matchups could be jostled. There was incentive to win (or lose) to secure a matchup.

What a difference it was last year with the Raptors not knowing if they'd play the Bucks, Celtics, or Philadelphia or slide into the play-in round. The games actually mattered. What a novel concept!

The league has sacrificed everything that makes sport interesting for cost control.

I've said it before but to me the biggest issue remains that there's just no reason to ever watch an out of market game. All the teams are basically as good as each other except for the teams that are legitimately bad and the teams that are good, at least record wise, tend to do it with unsustainable goaltending or things like team defense. Even as good as someone like McDavid is A) once you've seen him a few times you get the picture and B) he's still only playing a third of the game.

What made the NHL great was two things. Great teams and rivalries. The cap has killed both of them, the first with parity and the second with roster turnover.

True.

Nonetheless, even a fresh corporate guy would be an improvement.

That and there are about 12 teams too many, so the product is diluted.
