2026-27 General Thread

No news will be forthcoming today re: Kindel's situation; availabilities and practice canceled for the day. Dubas is scheduled to speak tomorrow.
phew
As far as possible medical episodes that make people release statements that you are currently conscious and alert and stable, this is probably the least scary one. Gotta do a full battery of assessments to figure out the root cause/trigger and make sure it was just a weird one-off.

And, unsurprisingly, the Tkachuks went full goon mode once the game was well out of reach. Matthew also did a patented "punch in the face to an opponent already contstrained and engaged with someone else from said opponent's blindspot"

I imagine if he does that another 40 or 50 times, the tough NHL might be forced to give him a 5K fine (tax deductible, MAGA donated funds, of course)

I'm not the biggest fan of B. Tkachuck but at least he told Ottawa two years before his contract expired that he wasn't interested in staying in Ottawa past that. Ottawa got three first rounders and a second.

By contrast, HE WHO SHALL NOT BE NAMED....... well you know the rest of the story.

People change who they work for and where they work all the time. Somehow when a hockey player does it, everyone loses their shit.

And yet, if Brady had fulfilled the contract he signed with the Sens and left as a free agent, there would be less vitriol toward him.

Revisionist history, HWSNBN didn't ask for a trade, but did agree to waive his no-trade clause for Vegas before the trade deadline but compensation could not be agreed upon.

Leafs did end up with a 1st round pick through that player at the end of the day.

Especially the Ekblad play, I can't understand how the league doesn't (won't?) clamp down on plays like that. The fact there is no penalty on those plays, let alone supplementary discipline, I guess we're ok with concussions? 🤷‍♂️

I mean it does have a downside to. When Danny Heatley came back there were "Dangerous Curves Ahead" signs in the stands. I feel that's offside. I don't think bringing up a players worst mistake ever, in which he killed his best friend, is fair game just because they didn't want to play hockey in your city. Also, I have always believed that the reason Heatley wanted out was because Clouston tried to use that accident as a way of motivating Heatley, and again, I think that is offside. Heatley was cleared of any wrong doing. He was an 18 year old kid that was driving a car that was way too powerful for him. Even the "Danny Heatley should die in a tire fire" was a little much for me in that case.

I get that fans have the right to be upset, but I think there should be lines that we don't cross just because we are upset.

It's just wild how many people think pro athletes are machines, some sort of a chattel.
