Armstrong bought out

In my experiences with unions they usually get a little fussy if someone losses their job over health problems / issues.
How many of his own contracts has Burke had to buy out now?

Pretty sure this is the first Burkie buyout, for the Leafs anyway.

ADD - My bad, I thought Orr was bought out
Right or wrong I still think it's bad business - I'll just leave it at that I guess

Given that there are 18 teams below the cap floor I'm kind of surprised that they couldn't just trade him to one of those teams so that we aren't carrying around stupid buyout dollars even if only for two years.

It does clear up a much needed forward slot though.

I think it speaks to how much his injuries have affected his marketability.

Colby Armstrong as a Leaf: 79 games played; 85 games missed, nine goals scored.

As everyone here knows, I really dislike Armstrong's gutless hitting of venerable players.  I just didn't realize how bad he sucked offensively for the Leafs while here.

I thought he could have been corrected by Phaneuf on his stupid hits, would have been a fast skater, create great forecheck pressure and scored 15 - 20 goals a year.  Boy, was I ever wrong.

Absolutely, but I think the value of a guy like Armstrong (cap filler) is after the first few weeks of the offseason when Nashville/Dallas/Anaheim/Phoenix realize they are still 15-20 million under the cap floor and there aren't any big-name free agents to throw a gazillion dollars at.  And with a new CBA coming down, the cap floor might be adjusted so a 1-year contract to boost up to the cap floor rather signing a bunch of guys to multi-year deals like Florida had to do last year could be a better option, even if the player they acquire kind of sucks.

Well that's a little shocking. Armstrong actually thanked the fans before these reports came out today:

Colby Armstrong ‏@armdog

Thanks to the leaf nation for the support over the last couple seasons. Although I had tough luck thanks for everything. ‪#lotsleftinme

I really didn't think anything of that tweet at first.

I always found it really weird that both Armstrong and Ron Wilson who were pretty much daily Twitter users suddenly went dark around Feb 5, right before the Leafs big slide.

It was only recently that Army started tweeting again.

Maybe that was in line with when Colby got injured, but, I smell conspiracy.  Well maybe not conspiracy, actually smells more like BBQ, Zee's most likely.

I'm now stuffed. Pork souvlaki, grilled veggies, shrimp, scallops all perfectly cooked on the BBQ.  I love summer.

Conspiracy? Okaaaay.

I would hazard a guess that its more about not having much good to say when you are losing.

My tinfoil hat keeps out the logical thought police.

Burke is saving that option for a couple of other Leafs...

Exactly.  I hate this.  I couldn't care how much he costs this year because there's no useful way to spend his money.

But at, the same time, we're talking about $1M on a cap that will likely be in the $65M-$70M range. It could be an issue, but, it's unlikely to be a significant issue.
