Now do you see what I was saying about your jokes in that other thread?

He bought him out instead of waiving/demoting him.

That lingering cap hit coupled with Tucker's just blows. Maybe there's some truth to cba changes and burying contracts, maybe it's about 'character' and remaining player friendly so I'll hold off completely condemning this on the face of it but it rubs me the wrong way right now.
Good luck to Colby, great guy.
Or maybe they're planning on sending Lombardi to the Marlies and want to limit the number of big money contracts they have down there taking up roster spots that should be filled by younger guys. The $1M on the cap this year isn't a big deal - there's not much to spend on this summer, but, it could be an issue next summer.

Tigger said:It's next summers cap that's bugging me the most. You could be right about Lombardi, plus likely Colton Orr. If Burke is trying to make the Leafs a player friendly roster it makes some sense I suppose but why ok for one and not the other?
Blah.
bustaheims said:Well, that's pretty simple - Lombardi is a centre, Armstrong isn't. The Leafs have a lot of guys who can play on the wing, but they need depth down the middle.
WhatIfGodWasALeaf said:Colby Armstrong will receive $8M from the Leafs for 79 games played, 9 goals, and 17 assists.
Ouch.
Tigger said:I meant about sending him to the Marlies as opposed to that, Lombardi not a 'character' guy?

You're going to have explain why, because I don't see it.

Simple, cause he's a Sens fan.

I think I liked our arrangement better when you had me on ignore.

How many of his own contracts has Burke had to buy out now?

When you get 2/3 of your remaining salary and a chance to earn more elsewhere, it's fine, the NHLPA isn't your run of the mill union.
And contracts bought out? With Armstrong, that's a grand total of 1.
