You have 1 guess to say what Don Cherry's take on this situation is.

I'll take "Blame the Victim" for $300, Alex.

You win.

He?s just a kid,? said Grapes.

Cherry said the security guard should have never complained.

?I am flabbergasted she would report something like that,? said Grapes. ?I just hope she wasn?t looking for publicity.?

I'm surprised he didn't break in to a story about how dropping your pants was a way to court women back in his day.  Or some anecdote about how he didn't wear pants for a week because it proved how much of a hockey player you were.

What does he know.  He?s always shooting from the lip and on this subject matter, it?s no different.  Ignore Grapes.

Matthews hasn't even been convicted yet.  The only crime he has been charged with is allegedly trying to open the car door on the security guards car.  You watch the interview with the police officer and he was even hesitant on what he could charge Matthews with.  Providing proof that Matthews was the one trying to open the car door, and providing proof that his intent was nefarious, in a court of law, will be tough.

Walking around in your underpants isn't a crime, as demonstrated by those people involved with hiphop culture.

Stop making sense already. Geez

Auston's 3rd in two games. Feels good to start posting hockey-related .gifs here again.

Two again last night. If Auston can stay slippery and play 82, I'm predicting 57 goals.

Just saw the replays of his two goals.  I agree, if he plays all or almost all the games, he could get 50+.  That one-timer was really never there before (at least not from a distance), so the first goal last night would not have happened.  He's already gotten 2 on the one-timer.

There?s something about Auston...

That second goal showed a sense of patience & accuracy in getting it just right.  Most players would have injected a bit of a ?hurry up? approach but Matthews positioned the puck perfectly and smoothly.  Only a talent like him can do that.

I agree, but he did have a lot of time and space. Must have been used to that since he does face the Leaf defense in practice every day...

Only 57 ? That seems a little low. ;)

Even if the punishment was going to be community service in the off-season settling for money seems disingenuous toward the message of setting an example.

Disingenuous on Matthews's part? It's the point of the justice system to ensure restitution for victims and to punish the guilty (where necessary). If she was happy with the settlement, then justice is done. It doesn't send a good message to bring this through the courts and cost the taxpayers thousands of dollars.

I imagine that taught him an expensive lesson.  Hopefully he stays out of trouble from here on out.

Quite amazing what money can do.

Yep - handled the way it should have been handled all along. The old fashioned way - "Here's a wheelbarrow full of money."

It wouldn't even have come to light if he had just cracked the wallet open back then.

Hopefully he learns the right lesson and not that having wheelbarrow's full of money will solve everything....

I think the issue is with someone being able to buy their way out of trouble, a luxury that not everyone can afford.

Maybe but if this wasn't a wealthy and famous athlete but instead just some college kid without a record then odds are nothing would have come of it anyway. At least this way the hard done by party gets a settlement out of it.
