Avalanche vs. Maple Leafs - Mar. 8th, 7:00pm - SN, TSN 1050

This was a frustrating one. They had a chance despite getting heavily out chanced against a Cup contender. They had multiple days off to rebound from a tough stretch of games and I did not like how they played in this one at all.

The top line was overall good. JT got two goals but I didn't like Nylander's game at all. I like the new additions but I think they had some challenges just knowing where to go that should get better as they adapt to Berube's system.

Rielly continues to be not good and I'm running out of patience.

Florida now 4 points up on the Leafs for the division.

We should be the Cup contender by now.

The thing I liked about this game was the play of Matthews, Tavares, and especially Marner.

Nylander needs to show more urgency. I get everything you say herman but still. He skates harder in that Gatorade commercial than in games.

He's 19 pts behind last year's pace after 63 games. Leafs need him to be better if they want first in the division.

I thought Berube would be tougher on the team — not just Nylander, everyone. Of course I don't know what goes on behind closed doors, but I don't see that he challenges the team or demands more of them. He is closer to Keefe in that way than I expected.

Cooper benched Kucherov the other night against Buffalo for poor performance.

Winning teams have winning mentality...whether its the ability to move on from their star players (like Tampa, Colorado), or trade them (Florida, Vegas).

The culture here is more about protecting feelings, even at the expense of winning. And so that's reflected in Leafs management that can't even sit their stars, let alone tell them to get lost when they ask for too much, or trade them before their NMC kicks in.

It's actually comical. And frustrating.

I didn’t watch other than a couple minutes when Marner made it 3-2 but I was disgusted with his effort defensively on one shift. Lazy as f and judging by his -3 looks like that line struggled. Bérubé no different than Keefe with his handling of the core in my mind.

Who are you talking about? Marner wasn't -3. 88 and 91 were. L1 was our best and actually won their minutes last night. The 88/91 pairing got filled in. And too bad you didn't watch, 16 was great.

He's quoting a post regarding how poor Nylander was, he's not knocking Marner.

Anyway I really don't like Nylander with Tavares, they constantly have trouble getting out of their own end. Tavares needs much better support in the defensive zone and Nylander (as well as Domi) is probably the worst wing for him to have in that scenario.

As good as the first line is/was, I still think the Leafs are sinking themselves having their best defensive forward and centre on the same line.
