Bernier's Arbitration Case | Sides settle at 2 years, $4.15mil AAV

I would have paid Ticketmaster money to be in that hearing

I think it would be fascinating to see the process from the inside.  Past that, I'm guessing these hearings are a little monotonous.

$4.15 AAV on 2 year deal as per EF

Note, this isn't the arbitration award as that could only have been a 1-year deal. The Leafs and Bernier settled on their own before the award was announced.

I kept thinking of the Chris Rock quote about the employer's message to the employee about paying minimum wage when I saw the Leafs' minimum arbitration offer to Bernier:  "Hey, if we could pay you less, we would, but it's against the law."

Glad thats done. like I have been saying since mid season when everyone was saying to get rid of one or both of our goalies, I said why fix something that is not broken. we have two solid goalies, and as you can see, management thinks we do as well. I like all the moves so far, and think we are on the right track back to getting us a good Hockey team. i just cant wait to see the kids start to come up next season and forward.

Our goalies are not solid.  They let in way too many soft goals to be considered solid.

It can be argued that was at least in part due to being overworked.

I don't think either is Vezina calibre, but you might see more from them with a team and system that insulates them a little more.

Reimer hasn't been good for a couple years now.  Bernier has shown flashes of elite goaltending but has more often than not played poorly.

It's not solid at all, whatever the excuses.

I think he got over paid. That's a lot for average goaltending.

But we really don't know if he's an average goaltender.  He's had one year where he was above average and one year below.  And those numbers are relative to the rest of the league, even though he was playing on a terrible team.

So, we'll find out what he is soon, but it's too early to call him average.  In the meantime $4.15 really isn't a bad number, especially on a short-term deal.

The key is short term deal. Leafs will be awful next few years at least so if Bernier helps that along I'm good with that.

OTOH, if he shines then we've got a goaltender for the improving team.
