Black & Blue Leafs - Injury Report

Would Colbourne not of been lost on waivers?  I mean, wasn't that the thought at the time anyways?

He would have been lost to waivers only if they wanted to send him to the Marlies.

Personally I was of the opinion that it wouldn't have been a problem keeping him on in a bottom 6 role, particularly since the abysmally useless McLaren and Orr are occupying said spot(s).

I think the more telling fact was that he was beaten by Ashton and Bodie for spots because of their pre-season play.  Under Carlyle, orr and McLaren were going to play.  There were still spots for Colborne to earn a job, but he lost.

Carlyle  is the guy that I blame for losing Colborne, because he truly believed that Ashton was a better player than Colborne, enough to lose him from the team entirely.

That Colburne trade is biting us in the behind region already...

This is one of the reasons a number of people did not like moving him.  Didn't mean we thought he was going to be an all-star, but he's certainly capable of being one of the best bottom 6 forwards on the team.  I didn't like basing it on his pre-season play, just like when a player has a great pre-season and can't duplicate it.  It sucks that now this has happened and he's not around to fill in when he should be.

I don't think we are missing out on too much....I have season tickets to the Flames.  Most nights I have to check the program half way through the game to see if he's playing.  Completely invisible most of the time.  Can't imagine that he would be any kind of savior...

I've got Gamecenter Live so I've been trying to watch some Flames games to get a look at him, and that hasn't been my impression.  I don't think anybody thinks he would be a saviour, and I purposely tempered what I said about his potential impact - but from what I've seen of him in Calgary he's perfectly capable of filling in better than probably anyone else in the system right now.  He's been playing over 10:00 per night in 9 of 13 games with Calgary and at least 15:00 in each of the last 4.  He may never turn into what was hoped, but he's still got more natural and physical talents than any center's left in the system.

I think he's actually performed quite well in Calgary and looks better each game.  For his sake, hopefully the points come for him playing with Cammalleri.

That's a pretty fair assessment.

I would think the only difference is that were sitting with a better talent pool than Calgary. However, like you said he would be the only naturally gifted center which would be handy right now compared to Ashton, Smith.
They just need to gut it up...

markhmasters: RT @MapleLeafs Dave Bolland had successful surgery to repair a severed tendon on the outside of his left ankle. He is out indefinitely.

mirtle: Bolland had a tendon on the outside of his left ankle severed, meaning it wasn't the achilles affected.

So is this the same injury as Karlsson's?

Sounds like it was a different tendon, which might be good, but then they say it is severed (rather than torn or partially lacerated) which sounds very bad.

Karlson was out 10 weeks with an Achilles, hopefully this is less. Thank god it wasnt the Achilles

I don't think it's necessarily Achilles = more missed time than another tendon, but that an Achilles would be a much harder injury to come back from.

I think he could be out longer than Karlsson was.

I'm not a doctor (but I play one on here) but I'm guessing multiple months he'll be out?

Neither am I, but after the Olympic break is my completely uninformed guess.

Yeah apparently Karlsson got a bit lucky in that the last 30% held on and it healed quickly.  If it's true a tendon was completely severed this could be longer.

Some similar injuries in recent seasons have been Kevin Bieksa, 2-3 months (he also missed close to 3 months in 2007 with a similar injury) and Andrei Markov, close to 3 months.

The main thing Karlsson had going for him was his age. Tough one for Bolland.

You know Bolland is only 4 years older than Karlsson, right? Age isn't really a significant factor for him at this point.
