Black & Blue Leafs - Injury Report

I'm a little surprised with the Bozak news. I wonder why they waited so long before making todays decision.

Well, the initial report on his injury was 7 to 10 days, so, at that point, LTIR would have been unnecessary. Clearly, he's not progressing as expected or they've done other tests that have shown it to worse than they initially though. They didn't really need the cap exemption until now, so, why force a player to the sidelines for longer than they thought necessary until it actually becomes useful to them?

Kulemin's been taken off injured reserve so he should be in the lineup tonight.

EDIT: Also, Bozak has been placed on long-term injured reserve.  Earliest he can return is November 21.

Yep, had a feeling his injury was worse than they were initially letting on. Damn though, that kind of sucks.

On a sidenote, I was never a big fan of Joe Colborne, but right about now he would be pretty useful to the Leafs.

The Colborne thing is very irritating.  They couldnt possibly have believed they would go through the year with no injuries at center ...

jonasTSN1050: Carlyle had no timeline on Bolland. But Bozak will be out until at least Nov. 21. Placed on LTIR.

yay.

We're running out of centermen.  Is there any way we can cobble the working parts of those two into one centerman?  Like a Frankenstein monster?

BOZOLLAND SHOOT.  BOZOLLAND SCORE!  RAAARRR

There's no rule in the playbook that says a Frankenstein monster can't play.  Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go sell this story to Disney.

A little more info on Bolland:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/globe-on-hockey/leafs-bolland-to-have-surgery-after-being-cut-by-skate/article15232667/

?I don?t know of the degree of severity or which tendon but he did suffer a cut into that area, so he will have surgery to repair that tonight," said Carlyle.

I think that clarifies a lot of the speculation regarding the comparisons to Karlsson. Like I speculated in the GDT, looks like Carlyle was making a comparison to the way he was injured and the area of the body where he was injured rather than comparing the specifics of the injury itself.

I don't think its a stretch to say we won't see Bolland again until 2014 based on various media reports. Leafs will very likely have to deal for a short-term replacement at center ASAP.

I take it there's nobody suitable at the Marlies to come up play centre?

At least it gives us a chance to see if Kadri can carry the load of top line centre minutes over an extended period of time I guess!

The skate blade was low enough that it might have only been tendon that was cut, but even if it is muscle it will be a while before Bolland gets back on the ice.  Think a minimum of 2 weeks of pure immobilization followed minimal with limited stretching at that point.  Bolland will be out at the very least until Christmas most likely.  Keeping in mind that this is entirely based on nothing as there really isn't any good information on the nature of his injury at this point.

What is reassuring is that Bolland was wearing the kevlar-style hockey socks so it is considerably less likely that he has a complete severing of any tissue.

Time to make a deal with EDM?

For Yakapov? I don't think the Leafs need to make that big a deal, unless he comes extremely cheap and that won't happen.

If Yakupov has a hard time under Eakins, imagine the hell under Carlyle.

That Colburne trade is biting us in the behind region already...

This is one of the reasons a number of people did not like moving him.  Didn't mean we thought he was going to be an all-star, but he's certainly capable of being one of the best bottom 6 forwards on the team.  I didn't like basing it on his pre-season play, just like when a player has a great pre-season and can't duplicate it.  It sucks that now this has happened and he's not around to fill in when he should be.

I don't think we are missing out on too much....I have season tickets to the Flames.  Most nights I have to check the program half way through the game to see if he's playing.  Completely invisible most of the time.  Can't imagine that he would be any kind of savior...

4 pts in 13 games. Nobody's asking for a saviour, but a capable C who can eat up some minutes while others are recovering. Played 18 mins tonight, on a less talented Flames squad.

No matter how you slice it, Joe Colborne would be more valuable to the Leafs, at this point in time, than a 4th round pick.
