Black & Blue Leafs - Injury Report

markhmasters: Bozak departs after about 45 minutes of practice; eligible to return Thurs but more likely for early next week

Mirtle suggests that Bozak could return Thursday as Carlyle says he's "approaching day-to-day."  But that does seem soon.

Yeah. That seems like it would be pushing it. Today was his first practice with the team since the injury, and he didn't make it all the way through. To me, that suggests Saturday is a much more likely return date that Thursday - or possibly even against Columbus on Monday.

haven't these guys heard of the flu shot? geez we even bought the last couple of years in a mist  form that u spray up your nose and no needle..good on that?teams should require early flu shots for their teams as they travel so frequently?needless injury by illness Kessel or does this explain ur uninspired play these last few games?

I don't know much about the nasal spray and it's effectiveness but I totally support anyone's choice to not take it or the flu shot regardless of their profession.

The flu shot only protects against whatever the medical community has determined will be the most common strains of the influenza virus to be spread this winter, not all strains. Kessel could very well have received the shot.

There's also a lot of questions about the efficacy of the flu shot, but, that's a completely different discussion.

I havent had the flu in ten years dudes. In  any case we don't need to lose guys to preventable illness.

Really? This isn't like wearing those Kevlar socks. I haven't had the flu in about 4 years but caught it this year. You can reduce risk but you will never be 100% immune from an illness like that.

The life of a NHL hockey player traveling around germ infested airports, etc.

On a side note slightly on topic, if one of your fourth liners became a zombie and bite someone, what kind of suspension are they looking at?

It's not a preventable illness, though. The best you can do is minimize the potential to get it. There are dozens of strains of the influenza virus. As I said, the flu shot only covers some of them. Just because you haven't had it in 10 years doesn't mean you haven't been vulnerable to it.

I didn't think scoring machines were susceptible to biological disease. Huh!

EDIT: I found this at MLHS and thought it fit.

Bozak is aiming to go Thursday...

Given that they are playing a Nashville team that can't score and hasn't been all that dominant defensively, I'd be a little inclined to maybe make him sit until Saturday.  He wasn't playing all that well pre-injury and I think he was probably nursing something given how poorly he was performing in the faceoff circle.  An extra 2 days off for the game on Saturday wouldn't be the worst thing.  Kadri comes back tomorrow so that already bumps Smith/Holland down in the lineup.

I might actually use that same logic to put him in Thursday instead of holding him back. That way, he gets his first game back against an easier opponent, where he shouldn't be needed to at full speed yet. Gets him a chance to start to readjust to the pace of a game without the same pressure he'd see Saturday against Washington. If he's legitimately good to go, he should play.

I don't disagree, but I feel like Carlyle will just play him at full speed anyway.  And I never believe that a guy waits to be even 95% before getting back in the game.
