Brown to Edmonton

aaronward_nhl: Leafs Mike Brown has been traded to the Edmonton Oilers for picks.

Opens up a roster spot for Frattin.

Wow!  Did not see this one coming.  They (Carlyle) must really like what McLaren has been doing.

Going to miss Mike Brown.  Often injured, played really hard, stone hands but could somehow pull out a great individual move once in a blue moon, great moustache.

Considering Carlyle's preference for using an actual heavyweight if he needs someone to throw fists this was more or less unavoidable. Just no place for him.

Still, he came here for a 5th(lousy memory) and he contributes a couple of ok years and returns a 4th? That's ok.

I like the guy, but honestly, Komarov brings more to his "role" in terms of actual hockey, and Orr and McLaren provide all the fighting we need.

Looking at potential rosters with everyone healthy, he didn't have a spot.

Would have hoped for a bit more. Perhaps a third? But the guy was constantly injured. Played well enough when he was on the ice. Burke really loved this guy. Victim of the numbers game. Great pickup for the Oilers.

I was abit surpised to see the trade, but between the acquisition of McLaren and Orrs' revitalized play this year there isn't a place for him.  Each game you saw him out there and forcing a huge hit/fight to prove his worth.  I imagine he felt it coming as well.

Good luck in Edmonton.

really? a 4th is pretty good given what 4th liners typically go for.  Given his injury risk, I'm surprised we actually got anything for him.

mirtle: Apparently the pick for Brown is also conditional.

Any word on what the condition is? Goes up to a third or down to a fifth based on games played?
