Bruins @ Leafs - Dec. 8th, 7:00pm - LeafsTV, TSN 1050

I'm getting annoyed at how Bowen has to give props to McClement for being 1st in the NHL for SH ice time every single freaking game.... That would be great praise if they were top 5 or even 10 in PK, but it's meaningless considering how ineffective the PK has been.

Yeah, I'd be embarrassed to have my name used.

One ice save percentage with McClement on the PK is .902, down from last year's .904. But the PK's giving up 9 more shots per 20 minutes.

Not that Bernier is to blame for this, but why wouldn't they put Reimer in, just to shake the team up again?

Is there any factual basis for the idea that changing goalies leads to any significant change in play?

Don't know, but I've seen it work. But I'm the type of guy that would also switch goaltenders just for the shoot out. Now THaT would be a true tandem. Play the goaltender where and when he has shown strength in the past. Id change them twice on a hunch if I thought I was going to get the best out of both of them by doing it.

Evidently not:

The crux of that seems to be a large assumed difference in quality between the starter and the back-up so I'm not sure how applicable it is here. Still, I'd need to see something that says it works before I criticize the coach for not going with good ol' hockey wisdom.

Well, you've seen a team play poorly for a stretch and then play better after the switch and you're just attributing the change to the decision to swap the goalie. Likewise, I've seen a bunch of times where a team changed goalies and didn't play any better and I've seen teams play better in the third period after a bad second with no goalie change so I don't know that there's a lot to recommend it.

Sure, but either way it worked. So you can account for it anyway you like I suppose.

Crucial third period PP, 1st PP unit on the ice and with the puck, the result is a big fat load of nothing. I'm pretty sure I copied and pasted this from the last five games.

Phaneuf really avoids taking shots on the PP.  I don't understand.

Seems to be an issue with all the D, not getting in one-time positions so lanes are blocked off before shot can be taken.  Or that's my theory which is why I've wanted Phaneuf/Franson switched on the PP.

Another chance coming.
