Bruins @ Leafs - Oct. 15th, 7:00pm - CBC, TSN 1050

Great game by the Blue & White!  Enjoyed watching the youngsters, the future stars have themselves a good time potting the goals.

Of course,  not without the stellar netminding of Andersen.

All in all, great home opener win.

This explains why JvR's jersey was on clearance this summer.

Also has to be said I gave the team a ton of crap for not retiring numbers so kudos to them on the long overdue change.

It's a little funny that sort of all at once the team is Yankees/Habs-esque in terms of single digit numbers this is a solid policy.

Haven't seen the answer yet:  Anybody know why Sundin wasn't at the ceremony tonight and represented by Kaberle?

Apparently he and his wife are about to have another kid

Ah, okay, thanks.  I assumed it had to be something pretty significant.

Anyone have any thoughts on the new PA guy?

I never much cared for Frost. He was a bit over the top at times to me...

Of course I preferred Paul Morris....

He sounds like the guy in The NHL video games.

So the Leafs are retiring their previously "honoured" jersey numbers tonight. It was rumoured 14 would be retired for Keon but it's all of them.

1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 13, 14, 17, 21, 27, and 93 are no longer in use.

Plus Keon's 14 is going up to the rafters of course.

JVR switches from 21 to 25.

The way it should be.  Honoured & retired  Bravo!
Why now? That's a lot of numbers. I personally don't get it. They're already being honored. I am personally embarrassed by this teams "history". I am honestly tired of recycling stuff that happened in the 60's in a 6 team league. 67 was almost 50 years ago, 50!

Am I way off base? Does anyone else feel the same way?

I think you're relentlessly negative and might need some professional help, am I way off base? Does anyone feel the same way?

Maybe I'm wrong and your negativity is all channelled here and the rest of your life is awesome, but dude, please lighten up.

I think you're off base here.  For too long the Leafs ignored their history and didn't properly honour their past accomplishments.  All teams retire numbers of great players, why were the Leafs the exception?  Habs have 15 retired numbers, Leafs now have 13.  Two storied franchises, albeit many years removed, still you honour your past.

Honestly, I think Leafs' management is doing exactly what Tim Leiweke was attempting to do when he wanted to strip historical pictures off the wall. Meaning, putting an end to living in the past, and moving forward. Only, current management has been doing a much better job of it, and with a lot more tact.

The Leafs have put history in its rightful place by retiring the numbers of the great players in Leafs' history. At the same time, they put the focus clearly on the collective shoulders of the youth on the team, and that's reflectd in the whole 'Stand Witness' theme. This management group has traded a bunch of boat anchor contracts, and are doing a commendable job restocking the team with youth and talent. Now they've put the past in its rightful place.

So, embarrassed? No. In fact, for this first time in a long time I can say that I'm NOT embarrassed.
