Bruins @ Leafs - Oct. 25th, 7:00pm - CBC, TSN 1050

So the 1st and 3rd lines have been hemmed in their own zone and the Kadri line is the odd man out so far.

Can't defend you on that one.

I think that looked like a hook but wasn't really one. Hard to explain, but it didn't really change anything that defenceman was doing. Also think the d-man clamped his arm down when he noticed the stick there.

On the upside the Leafs should be ready to play in the defensive zone based on how they have started.

The Bozak line really struggles against top defensive teams. When they aren't given space they have a really hard time creating it for themselves.

Last season when Doughty said the Leafs top line was one-dimensional and cheated a lot of people thought he was wrong. Hope they see what he was saying now. Whenever one of those guys gets the puck in the defensive zone he's looking for JVR or Kessel bolting out of the zone.

Maybe that's how they become known as top defensive teams.

Line is way too soft. Don't see any intensity in the 3 of them. Especially JVR and Kessel.

I don't see any changes in how the Leafs play in their own end. Awful last year and just as awful this year..

Totally agree but I guess most of us on this site see it because management hasn't for a long time.

It may seem as though that statement was redundant or self-evident but it's not. The Kessel line has atrocious possession numbers. They can get away with bad possession against a team like the Islanders that is prone to defensive lapses, but not against teams like Boston. Against teams like Boston, not being able to hold on to the puck effectively renders the top line into a total liability because they're constantly stuck in their own end.

Sundin's lines were constantly facing the other teams top lines, but they consistently excelled regardless of who they were playing against by adjusting their game in order to create offensive pressure. The Bozak line plays a rush game and are fine with the man advantage but they can't do much else.

Burke tried to build this team from the net out but he never gave us even one top pairing defense man. The leafs have no defense and it shows.

I have to confess, I'm a little disappointed Cherry wasn't crazier.

He was pretty reasonable actually.  I was expecting some kind of crazy "we need to kick Kadri out of the NHL" kind of rant.  Instead we got mostly intelligible speech and a very valid plea for the support of our wounded veterans and their families to not be forgotten.

I think we need to shake up the top line, at least as an experiment.  Winnik for Bozak, make them better defensively?  Or Holland.
