Burke Fired

Burke says that he was under the impression that the senior adviser role was to the hockey operations team, but it apparently is to Tom and the board. Interesting. Didn't seem pleased about that.

Yup that is weird. They don't want him to have any input into hockey. What will he advise to the board? Sounds like they just want him gone.

Q: "What did you learn about this for next time?"
A: "I'd like to go to a team that doesn't get sold next time."

Q: "What does a senior adviser mean?"
A: "I have no idea."

Haha.

Steve Simmons: Do you expect to be running the next US Olympic team?
Burke: ..... the best part of today is that I won't have to talk to you again.

oh that shot at Steve Simmons was just epic.

Yeah, that was pretty awesome. If nothing else, I'll miss that side of Burke.

Now if only Al Strachan had showed up to ask questions.... oooh that would have been the icing on the cake.

That is part of what ownership didn't like about Burke right there. Why take shots at the press? You may not like Simmons but just answer the questions without needless shots. It's stooping to their level.

Simmons absolutely deserved it. In a classless move he brought up Burke's personal life in a column a few months ago. Burke's personal life is no one's business, and Simmons should have known better.

That's not the point. Ownership doesn't want their GM fighting with the press. That in a nutshell is Burke, he can't let anything go.

Ah I was wondering if there was a specific reason here - not that Burke really needs anything specific.

Did you notice right after that comment that the next camera shot showed a lot of
the media trying to supress the grins? Probably thinking "Oh snap!"

Nope you're right. I thought he started out all right from their point of view and then he got some shots in with Simmons, timing, Russia etc. His advice to the board will not be required for long.
