Canucks trade McCann,2nd,4th to Florida for Gudbranson,5th

Zee, rumbling I heard on twitter had them high on a pivot at #5 hence why they made McCann available.

Dubois I think.

Still stupid, but there you go.

Extra stupid. I mean, at the very least, you should wait to be sure you'll be able to draft the player you're targeting.

The fact that Dubois isn't even a full-time centre in the Q makes it extra, extra stupid.

So this is what it looked like to the outside world watching Toronto's off season for the past 10 years.

Wait, maybe we can get something for Jared Cowen after all! 6'5", 238 lbs.

Florida just got hosed losing one.  Maybe Cowen for McCann and a 3rd.  Pretty good value for a high draft pick with size.

Gudbranson always seemed like a decent skater for me, he just sucks at hockey apart from that, not great with the puck on his stick and positionally he is weak.

He is big, physical and moves well, it's all the hockey skills that he lacks.

He's a decent skater once he gets up to speed, but, his first couple strides and his ability to make quick adjustments, etc. are lacking - which is a major problem from a defensive mobility standpoint.

If Vancouver wants a center we have Bozak which we'll grudgingly flip for the 5th overall pick.

I think that's how I'd describe Roman Polak's mobility, Gudbranson moves a lot better.

While I don't think he is a great skater, he has always been at least averagely mobile and that's largely what made him stand-out because when a big guy can move like a smaller one, they look great.

The trouble I see with him is he lacks all of the other necessary skills required to be an NHL'er, below average positioning, passing and shooting. He has a decent poke check and likes to be physical, the problem is he is found out of position too often because he reads the game incorrectly at the NHL level.

George Richards ‏@GeorgeRichards
One reason #FlaPanthers traded Erik Gudbranson: told he turned down four year deal worth $4.5m per before taking one-year bridge at $3.5.

I'm having a hard time deciding which side is dumber: Tallon for offering Gudbranson that contract or is agent for rejecting it.

Gudbranson's agent. At least Tallon managed to turn that dumbness into a win.

Though, now that Gudbranson is in Vancouver, they could both come out as winners. I can definitely see Benning overpaying Gudbranson this summer to lock him up long-term in an attempt to justify the trade.

Well, he did that very thing with Brandon Sutter so you're probably right.

He's big, he's physical, he skates decent....now if he could just make the proper adjustments and improvements to his game, it would be an added dimension to his play.

Some times these big defencemen take a couple of extra years to develop, maybe that's what Benning is counting on,that Gudbranson is still in a upward trajectory....like a poor man's Chara.
