Leafs need to target 2 good stay at home D men in the off-season.

You're out of your mind. I have no idea why anyone thinks they are a commodity. A defenseman with a good defensive acumen doesn't mean they can't be an offensive weapon as well.

My bad man, go out and get 2 Karlsson's

It'd be interesting to see the numbers but it sure feels like the Bozak line is not generating much at 5 on 5.

They ended tonight pretty well, but that might've been score effects in the third...

They had a good first game, but, overall, it's not been a good series for them.

CF%
JvR 51.2%
Bozak 44.7%
Marner 43.2%

and SCF%
JvR 51.9%
Bozak 46.6%
Marner 45.5%

If this is the level the Caps have to play at in order to beat the Leafs by 1 goal, they are not going to win this series.

That sorta applies to the Leafs too though, doesn't it? They had to play their best 2 games of the season, have shoddy defensemen find gears that took them to a whole other talent level, just to eke out OT wins.

At least we didn't see a great effort wasted in a fluky loss tonight.

I mean, I know you're being a jerk here and using a pretty thin logical fallacy, but, you're now much closer to what the Leafs actually need - at least one more top pairing defenceman.

I actually don't care what you think with a post like that.

Gardiner - Karlsson 1
Rielly - Karlsson 2
Dermott - Zaitsev
Marincin - Carrick

I'd be pretty okay with that

Best of 3 starting Friday  - still very much a winnable series at this point.

Nearly another improbable comeback after a very poor start to the game. We didn't play well at all but even then with better bounces could have made it to OT again so definitely still some positives.

Already looking forward to the next game!

Unhappy with the loss.  Happy that it was once again a one goal difference.  The Caps came out with guns blazing, figuratively speaking, much as they had done in the previous game.  This time though, they built the lead up to four goals before the Leafs came to life.

A tad too late for our boys in blue & white.  Somehow I didn't sense the Leafs were going to win tonight, not with the way Washington was able to build up their lead.

The five-on-three as a squandered opportunity for the Leafs to really get back into the game, much the same way the Capitals didn't capitalize on their two-man advantage in Game 3.

Overall disappointed with the outcome, but there's still hope.  Besides, just by the way the Maple Leafs have played against Washington in these most unexpected playoff results is enough to make any fan smile.

GO LEAFS GO!!!

Compete... compete...compete...that was the question...

?For sure, it is a lost opportunity,? said head coach Mike Babcock. ?It doesn?t feel like it ? it is. I think Game 1 in their building you could say that, but I didn?t feel like that, I just felt that was a confidence builder for our team. You?re playing a team, they?re the best team in hockey and here you are.

?I thought today was the first time that maybe we weren't scared enough of them and it looked like it because our competition level wasn?t good enough.?

That's our bad game out of the way, and we still dragged it back to a 1 goal loss through almost sheer will power alone. Bodes well not just for hopefully the rest of this series but also for next season and beyond.

Two more good games and we're potentially in the 2nd round, one of which is a pressure off road game.

It was a crappy game, but it could have been worse <cough>Edm<cough>.

Hey, the Leafs are tied 2-2 against the best team in hockey. I'm happy with that. It's a best 2 of 3 series now.

Man that 5th goal really hurt. Brown was on instead of Nylander and shot it right at the guys feet. Literally anywhere would have been a better choice then the small sliver of ice where the caps player was. Then carrick brings it back into our own zone and bad goal by Andersen.
I wish marchenko would play instead of Carrick.
Leafs didn't skate tonight, the effort wasn't there.

Yeah I have to keep reminding myself the Leafs weren't even supposed to make the playoffs this season.  Once you're here though, you get greedy.  I still think they can win this series.
