Capitals @ Leafs - Jan. 23rd, 7:30pm - SN, Fan 590

A re-leaf of a win!

Freddy was superb, and the Leafs played solidly defensively & offensively.  Looks like they?re back on track considering that the Nylander line clicked seamlessly and the Matthews/Marner came away exactly as expected.

Overall, confidence boosting victory.  Hey, Tom Wilson, hear that?

You can really see how effective Babcock has been with Kadri (and Nylander) by their mental state throughout this slump and by how much they've bought into what the coach is preaching:

Nazem Kadri on whether William Nylander?s confidence is growing:

If you guys just get off his back, I think he?ll be fine. He?s been pretty positive and trying to have a positive mentality. We seemed to find some early chemistry. Willy is a good player. He is too good not to be productive. You saw that tonight.

Kadri on breaking out of his slump with a hat trick:

I just stayed positive and stayed with it. Like I?ve been telling you guys, I haven?t really been super frustrated or anything. Just trying to have a positive mentality and be a good teammate and good things happen.

No knee-jerk reactions here, just focusing on doing what you do and working to make it better.

Ok Leafs, you've played like ass for the better part of a month, you have the lead in the last game before the all Star break, can you please win this one so there's at least something good to look back on?

It's not like they beat the best team in the league less than a week  before yesterdays game or anything.

Carlson gets something of a stick on this but looks like it's after the fact. Matthews sold Holtby on the curl and drag wrister to the high glove and went five hole with a light shot against the grain of his feet positioning. I don't know how on purpose it was, but Auston slung this puck off his toe and put it at an angle to match (and slip under) Holtby's descending right pad and frisbee away from the goal stick.

Yeah, that would have been awesome to look back on had they lost their 3rd in a row last night.
