So, why was the first OT power play a 4 on 3, and the second a 5 on 4?
Because it was 5v3 for 1 second. Willy got back on and play was never called since then, so 5v4.
And that's what makes Marner's play even worse. You're shorthanded in the OZ and you turn the puck over. Can't happen.

Whe the leafs play top teams the opposing stars go off.  Ovi and Carlson with 4 goals.  Stamkos and company had over 10 points.  Pasta and Marchand have scored easily.  Star players feast against the leafs.  No ability to stop anyone.

To be fair the B's and Pasta are crushing literally everyone right now.

They def are. Don't care or worry about them. It's not April yet.

Washington couldn't really contain the Nylander line either. Holtby and a slash bailed them out of probably three more goals there.

Right. Just stop Ovechkin. You know, the way all of those other teams have as he's scored 650 goals over his career.

It's almost like a team's best offensive players are the most likely to score against anyone.

Tough, tough month.  If/when they get everybody back then maybe things take a turn for the better.  Right now they are very inconsistent.

Skill loses to muscle yet again as Tom Wilson bangs up our guys with no response. Too much "skill", not enough muscle. This team isn't going deep without changes in player personnel.

Someone mentioned if the Leafs lost the B2Bs thy are 6-2-2. It was a much better effort tonight. Still a work in progress. Nice to see a little push back as well.

Sorry but you're wrong in regards to this game. Don't know if they'll keep playing like they did tonight but they didn't lose by getting "out muscled".

Disagree. Wilson was in their heads all night otherwise the score is probably very different in favor of the Leafs. You see a guy like him take out your best defenseman, almost another in Barrie and have free reign to take runs at everyone else, unopposed and this is the result.

1. Wilson's a dirty player. It's on the league to decide what kind of players they want in the league. IMO he should be thrown out of the league for intent to injure on a nightly basis.

2. Gauthier headlocked him and got a penalty.

3. Your grand narrative is complete bullshit because going 1-8 on the PP is what lost the game. Washington going 2-7 is what won the game. In case you weren't paying attention Ovie got 4pts. John Carlson, the leagues 2nd highest point getter, had two goals. If that's not skill beating out skill then I don't know what is.

Right? It's so easy isn't it?

To think that someone else hadn't thought of this and/or tried it when Washington repeatedly used this setup for years is also completely laughable.

That terrible weak backcheck on Wilson by Nylander that ended up landing him in the box in OT showed such a huge lack of effort that I was yelling at the TV, again.

Maybe someone has the clip...you can't play like that when the game is on the line.

Nylander went for the pass after using up his burst energy to make it back. Then he kept his momentum to take Wilson off the puck and save a goal.

This is what you should be more angry about.

That clip doesn't show the whole play...have a look at the whole play, and you'll be as infuriated as I was...for sure.

That one was just a dumb move.  The Nylander one was a lack of effort.  It was really bad, especially at 3 on 3.

No one has the clip on Twitter, but from what I recall, this group had a defensive zone shift and an offensive set of cycles and was ready to change. The Caps caught them in no-man?s land with a stretch pass. Rielly got on his horse (already 28-9 min of ice time). Nylander and Matthews were in the same spot of the ice when they recognized the play and turned around. Only Nylander even got back, so I?m not sure what this lack of effort means. He tried hard enough to be in position to be... blamed for not trying.

Marner's was the worse penalty ? just a killer.  Rather than take a penalty Nylander could have let Wilson try to beat Freddie on his backhand, which was unlikely (as opposed to, say, Backstrom) ... but that would require a very high level of situational awareness in a snap timeframe.
