Carlyle fired

Unexpected, but expected.

Good on Shanny to make the move.  I suppose he waited until the WJC was over as to not take the spotlight away from it.

Makes sense. They weren't going to win under him. Might as well start fresh now instead of waiting until the offseason.

Figured this needed it's own thread.  Props to Arn for being the first to break it on the board!

@DarrenDreger

Carlyle fired by Leafs. Spott and Horacek to take over.

No problem  :D

Carlyle finishes up with a record of 91-78-19

One playoff appearance with a 3-4 record.

Leafs currently on a 3-7 streak.

Sensible decision to not appoint a permanent coach immediately. Bylsma would be one I'd be interested in.

It will be interesting to see what changes with the playing staff - now they'll probably realise they're playing for their jobs so will they step it up?

Will Bozak and Kessel be broken up?

Will Kadri get an extended audition as 1C?

All of a sudden there's a purpose and almost excitement again IMO.

I imagine they'll wait until the end of the season to make any further, more permanent coaching moves.

Fairly reasonable assumption to make unless they decide to commit to Bylsma or MacLean long term.

Until Babcock signs an extension with Detroit, it's safe to suggest that is who the team intends to target first and foremost.

I think this will give them a temporary boost. I just don't see it making a big difference overall. Hope I'm wrong...

good time to pull the trigger.  Need to see what we have without Carlyle coaching.  If the shots against and posession trends continue, then well we're screwed.  :P

Be interesting to see if Spott can have any kind of impact like he did with the Marlies last season.

This must be how that European space agency felt after landing on that comet. What are we going to talk about now?

I guess that means I may get used to being tired in work after sitting up til 3am again now. Two weeks my self imposed exile lasted  ;D

I'm curious to see if they are still the same disorganized mess under a new coach - I have this feeling that things won't be much better.

Obviously I'm hoping that I'm wrong.

I'm wondering who will say they made the call, Nonis or Shanahan?

Because if it isn't Nonis, then Shanahan may as well fire him as well.

Firing Horachek.

In fairness, their possession numbers under Horachek are pretty bad.
