Carlyle fired

Joe S. said:
I'm curious to see if they are still the same disorganized mess under a new coach - I have this feeling that things won't be much better.

Obviously I'm hoping that I'm wrong.

I think the core needs to be blown up just as much as the coach needed to be fired.  Today was the first step in the right direction.

I have been logging in every day hoping to see this thread.... and now that it's here I'm speechless.  It's just so beautiful... I feel like Jodie Foster in Contact

Nonis must feel like the proverbial ant under the magnifying glass in the sun..... and well he should.

Wow...some people's posting count is going to severely slow down!

Hopefully this is step 1 in a series of steps to fix this team.  Hopefully the 2 headed monster of Spott/Horacek can have some impact on the defensive side now.

I hope we can play better defensively and really see what this core group of players is all about.

Bob McKenzie says:

@TSNBobMcKenzie

TOR hierarchy to review all coaching options over next couple of days but most likely scenario: Peter Horachek becoming interim head coach

And I'd be fine with that.  No need to rush into another head coach like when Wilson was fired.

I was wondering if something was up yesterday when he didn't show up for practice. They said it was an existing doctors appointment, probably knew already.

This should have been done last April, but then they couldn't hold out for Babcock if they hired a new coach this season.

I hope Horaspott? really fiddles around and experiments with the line-up. Might be tough with Lupul/Kadri/Holland probably out for game 1 though. How they deal with the top line will obviously be their first big test.

This graph was floating around awhile ago showing the effect Horachek had on the Panther's possession numbers last season:

The Panthers made their coaching change on Nov. 8th.

And IIRC that wasn't a great roster.

he just said no player has a full no move... but I think we knew that already.

I think it's better optics that it looks like Nonis made the decision. I'm kind of glad it's not Shanahan doing the conference.

I hate you.

Good new, everybody!

Now, we can get on with the task of dissecting the potential replacements, potential roster moves and complaining about how Nonis should be fired!

Also, just because it's amusing - Carlyle becomes the 2nd straight Leafs head coach to sign an extension and be fired before it officially kicks in.

Lots of talk at the presser about it being because of how the team is "trending" - wonder if that is alluding to the possession stuff to some degree.  Nonis also followed it up saying it's not about wins and losses which would again point to process of getting the team to play a better overall game whether it ends in a win or not.
