Alright people.  What superphone, smartphone, cell phone, or portable phone bag do you all use?

I have an old iPhone 3gs.  I'm looking at the big Galaxy Note, but my wife suggests the Galaxy S3.

Opinions?

Wasn't there a company at one time that would figure out all this cell phone BS?

The S3 is absolutely incredible.

The iPhone 5 is being unveiled next week. I'd wait until after those details are released before you make a decision.

She just wants me to have the best phone possible so she can reach me at my girlfriend's anytime she wants...

;)

I use an LG but I'm not sure what the catchy name for it is. It's a P690b, that's not very catchy....
I have been told that LG makes a really good phone though.. for what that is worth.

The biggest reason I'm asking is we're seriously considering getting rid of our home phone.

My neighbor did that. I guess if you have the right plan, it would work. I believe the market is trending that way anyway, in time, I suppose most people will do this.

When we moved last Feb we got rid of our home phone and haven't looked back.  I don't miss it at all since probably 90% of the calls were telemarketing.

People who knew us called our cell phones to reach us anyway.

I've done the no home phone thing, and, now that I have one again, I like having both.

I have an iPhone 4S and really like it. It does everything I need it to do.

I think it's awkward using as a phone so I couldn't imagine going even bigger. My friend in the office has an HTC something or other and it's huge.

I've heard more and more about this switch. I mean, the cost of home phone, if you don't use VOIP or whatever is very costly, if you use Bell for sure. I suppose if I could get the exact plan I would need, I would do the same thing.

I went the other way a couple years back, dumped my cell and went with a bundle, landline with features and unlimited high speed internet still costs me less than $75 a month, my cell bill was that or more and I was pretty frugal with it.

Now that I'm going to incorporate my new rotary cell/exercise program/self defense deterrent, pay as you go sounds about right... ;)

... maybe I can get one of those little optical magnifiers with a 4 inch tv screen attachment ( with typewriter ) to surf, maybe an old atari joystick for a mouse...

VOIP is a good way to go as well.  $15 a month not including long distance charges but they have packages for that.  I've used Vonage before and the product is pretty good.

If you go all cell, try some of the discount brands like Virgin.  I'm stuck on Rogers for now and it's not cheap.

For anyone thinking of getting rid of their home but worry about calling long distance on a cell phone you can download Google Voice for Android and iPhone and make free long distance calls. The app is also free.

I'd wait and see what Apple does with the Iphone 5 or 'The New Iphone'.

I use/used just about all the phones out there through work and my only criticism of the Android platform is that there are so many manufacturers of hardware that it feels like every six to ten weeks each new phone becomes redundant, now this should be celebrated to an extent because even if it's only one minor feature improvement at a time, it is driving tech forward, but it sucks a little if you have to drop a few hundred and then the phone is no longer 'the new hotness' within a matter of weeks.

The Iphone is still considered a boutique product and tends to hold it's value a little longer.

Oh and if you're a feature junkie, the S3 has no competitors at this stage, but I'd bet within six weeks another Android phone will probably out-punch it.

Regarding the Galaxy note you mentioned, I've seen a lot of people who love it, but if you're the type of person who wants it to 'feel' like a phone, it can be a little grating as it is basically a mini tablet you can make calls from and the stylus is 'interesting'.
