Cell Phones

And now you see my dilemma.  ;D

The phone I had my eye on was the HTC One V.

I also looked at the Moto G but to find an unlocked model, it's up in the $250 range.

Another one I was looking at was the Galaxy S2

Does it need to be a phone?  What about an iPod touch?  Has wifi for connectivity, but obviously, no phone connection.

Yeah, we would like to go the phone route. She's at the age where she's off on her own and we'd like the ability for her to get ahold of us and for us to to have the ability to call her.

The 4 models I've narrowed it to are:

HTC One V: http://www.htc.com/www/smartphones/htc-one-v/

Nokia Lumia 620: http://www.nokia.com/global/products/phone/lumia620/

Samsung Galaxy S2: http://www.samsung.com/global/microsite/galaxys2/html/

Motorola Moto G: http://www.motorola.ca/moto-g-ca-en/moto-g-ca-en.html?gclid=CJauobeH_rsCFdEWMgod4zYAqw

I'm leaning torn between the last 3 phones....The only reason I keep the V on there is it's the cheapest of the 4. Anyone have experience with any of these phones?

I don't have personal experience with these phjones, but all other things being equal I would always take the newest phone to be released from that list.  The S2 is very old so I would scratch that off.  The Moto G is the most recently released and in terms of price/performance you can be sure that Motorola will have you covered there.  They do well with battery life and the phones are snappy in general (my father in law has the Moto X)

Phones stopped being phones in 2007. They are now much more than that. As cars and household appliances get more connected, I can only see them making apps for two platforms: iPhone & Android. No developer one will waste time time and money developing apps for BB or Windows Phone because those phones just don't have the marketshare.

If you are content with your BB more power to you. Just remember, you will always be a few steps behind. This is not an insult, its just reality. IT IS all about the apps. Because today, every phone can take pictures, browse the web, text and call. What sets your phone apart is the apps.

you're getting ridiculous, nutman. If the Z10 is the better product in your opinion, that's great. But if the iPhone, or an android phone or a windows phone is the better product for someone else's needs, that's great too. There are a lot of good products out there, the Blackberrys included.

Using something other than your personal favorite doesn't make someone a clone or sheep or whatever you want to rudely call them. It's a mobile device, it's not that serious.

I don't like the Z10,or I would have bought it. Its the Z30 that I am impressed with.

MC: the Z30 is steps ahead not behind. as for the aps.. like I said its the only down fall. But the way I hear it sometime this month that wont be an issue any more.

when I got mt phone the Samsung was a close 2nd, I almost got it, but am glad I did not now that I have this one.

You may have missed the point.

Someone asked for an opinion, I have a Z30 and gave my opinion. I don't like BB the company, but they did score with this phone.

Felt so good to have my cell phone contract expire. Especially when Telus stopped calling me every day because I don't have a phone anymore :)

As long as they're not annoying me I don't care. They aren't selling me anything.

We got an iPhone 4 with Koodo (prepaid) and its been great so far. We use minimal data and rely mainly on wifi so our data charges aren't that high per month. The best part is that their prepaid 'boosters' don't expire, so they just keep carrying forward every month. We pay about $20 per month including data use (minimal), unlimited texting and 30 minutes (that also get carried forward monthly)

Just picked up a Blackberry Q5 phone from Koodo, they are selling them for $150 without a contract, and if you select it as a gift you can unlock it once you get it and use it with your existing provider. Pretty good deal, it will be nice to have a backup phone incase my Z10 gets damaged or anything.
