Kind of a use case why I don?t want to get on a packed go train to start commuting to work again.

I get they want to make testing easier... So why is it so hard to just buy rapid tests?

Well, given how their other policies and actions have been equally health & safety secondary (or even tertiary), maybe their goal is to infect everyone. Don't need to spend so much on public services if the public is dead.

It's kind of wild paying attention to world politics at the moment and seeing how the current level of inflation, which is hitting just about every western country, is trying to be used as a political cudgel and directly attributed not to a global supply chain issue caused by a pandemic but rather the varying decisions of leaders around the world.

In America it's Biden's stimulus checks causing it, in the UK inflation is all Brexit's fault, in Canada it was all caused by CERB(certainly not corporate wage subsidies) and so on.

Extremely cool that the place where all the countries with vaccines don?t want to send their extra vaccines is giving rise to a new variant of concern that is overtaking delta.

I?m disconnected to it ? why do countries not want to send their extra vaccines to South Africa?  Any specific reason(s)?

Because if there's a big breakout in another country, it will spread around the globe.
South Africa have jabbed 20% of the country - with the virus spreading around and mutating.

South Africa has done a terrible job in distributing the vaccines (despite what some members of my family might tell you). Doesn't help that years and years of corruption under Zuma decimated the medical infrastructure.

I know this.

I don't think it answers my question as to why countries don't want to send their extra vaccines there.

Is it just South Africa or is it pretty much every "developed" country is stockpiling vaccines and not sharing them with "less developed" nations?

Lack of faith in the South African government?

I'm genuinely curious.  Is it something like (and other politically motivated factors), and/or is it just what Arn suggests above that countries are withholding them for their own people and looking out for them first (especially with boosters required now) than willingly shipping them off to other countries.

I have to imagine it's a combination of both those factors, and possibly others.

Not really specifically S. Africa, but just nations without the infrastructure to manufacture, or the cash to hoard doses.

Africa in general has been given scraps scraped together, and even then it?s the vaccines that no one wants, and their governments are hesitant to make a move on it and they end up expiring as they get passed down the chain. Canada and the US are big fat vaccine hoarders and we have most of the anti-vaxxers :?(

I missed the "not" in your question. Sorry!

South Africa is at the forefront of epidemiology on the continent/world, so them being first to detect and categorize this variant doesn't mean they're the region where it first cropped up (because people seem to cast moral aspersions on regions where the variants are connected in the media).
