Nice of Babcock not to bother giving Mathews the call against his boyhood team.

Yeah, I thought that was a little odd. I mean even ignoring the whole Arizona connection he was flying in OT.

We've also yet to see Nylander in the shootout this season.
It's stupid is what it is. You saw Arizona use Holland even though he was a non factor all game just because the coach knew he'd have that extra incentive against the Leafs.  I don't understand Babcock sometimes.

Not sure what you noticed, but Holland was matched up early on against Matthews and pretty much neutralized the whole line. Held him to 40% CF% when they were on together.

I don't look at fancy stats. I didn't notice Holland generate any scoring chance all game.

Can't fault Babcock here guys.  Matthews was only 1 for 4 in shootouts, it makes sense to give others a go.

No one is to blame, 3 cross bars.

the only problem was not scoring them with double the shots.

Do you really think they went with Holland because they thought he might have personal motivations as opposed to the fact that he's got a good record in the shootout?

It's a factor for sure. Holland would have never had a shootout attempt for Arizona so the coach is neither here nor there with him in terms of trust. Shootouts are a coin flip anyway, you go with a hope on each pick.

?I think everyone was looking at him on the bench,? Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said. ?I asked him ?how?s your percentage?? He said, ?I?m 0-for-2 this year, but I feel good?. Sometimes those things work out like that.?

I still can't believe this didn't go in.

Great, the return match in Arizona is on a Leafs back to back and travel day.  Hopefully Matthews is up for that game in front of his hometown.

Remember, Auston Matthews' dad thought his son was a better baseball player than hockey player.

It looks like the Arizona players stick just barely got a piece of that Nylander pass which is what caused it to get as much air as it did, but given their skill sets that should really be a play they practice often.

It's really too bad he didn't end it there.  What more of a story book ending did you need in that amazing OT?  All due respect to the traded Holland which the flubbed shootout winner, the Matthews OT winner would have been the better ending.
