Since the line of discussion the quote a part of is missing something pretty basic, thought experiment: say his injury is completely healed or it never happened. Would you pay $5m for that? $4m? -- it's not like the team doesn't have other holes to throw that money into.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 4m
David Bolland's initial ask of TOR was 7 or 8 yr deal worth shade under $5M per year. If TOR counters it will be for shorter term/lower AAV.

Nonis should have told his agent to leave the room and never come back.

I think that there's a difference between coming in with a high offer and being just completely delusional.

I agree. But that just sounds like an extremely high starting place to me.
Corn Flake said:Why not shoot for it? He's got this chance to see what comes rolling in and take it back to the Leafs (or Chicago, more likely, IMO) and see what their response is.

Umm . . . that's not really that much better than what Bolland is asking for. In fact, I wouldn't categorize the difference there as not close. That's way too close for comfort.

bustaheims said:Coming into free agency with less than $5M in cap space, I actually don't expect the Hawks to do much more than add a couple depth players.

I think you're pretty safe. Without making a move, the Hawks just don't have the cap space to offer Bolland a contract anywhere near what he's asking for right now and fill out their roster. Coming into free agency with less than $5M in cap space, I actually don't expect the Hawks to do much more than add a couple depth players. Somewhere like Florida or the Islanders are much more likely landing spots. Chicago is down near the bottom of the list of places Bolland will end up.
BlueWhiteBlood said:My guess on Bolland is that they agreed to come back to the table closer to the start of free agency. I'd even go as far as to say that the Leafs are already talking to Stastny's agent to see about the possibility of offering more than Colorado's internal structure dictates.
I like that teams and players can shop around for 5 days, it makes things interesting.
