David Clarkson

The crazy thing is that it's not just Clarkson, but the line Clarkson is on that gets neutered. I'm not sure that Clarkson has been on a line that got a point in the past 15 or so games, which is pretty incredible stuff.  He is just awful and Randy keeps giving him third line minutes night after night after night.

His GF% (percentage of the goals scored by the Leafs when he's on the ice) is 41.9% - only Trevor Smith, Jay McClement, Colton Orr and Tim Gleason are lower on the team (min. 200 5 on 5 minutes).  Oh and you might not like who is 2nd best.  8)

I remember reading comments from Devils fans a while back, and they usually preferred Clarkson on the checking line where he was more of the go-to offensive guy of that line, rather than with their offensive players like Elias, Kovy, etc.

Look the season could be over shortly for us (I hope not) and lets give Clarkson an off season to figure it out. There could be a coaching change that could drastically change some of the ways the Leafs do business. His contract will be much less onerous once the cap goes up and I believe in him still, perhaps not at the price we are paying but I do believe he will contribute.
I could joing the dump Carlyle movement for Steve Spott in a minute. I am beginning to think that Randy is attaining Dinosaur status.  Perhaps a younger guy like Spott would be a better fit.

Clarkson isn't going anywhere. My feeling is he is going to get two more years to sort out his on ice play.

I can do that for him in this post and save him the two years.  Stop taking boneheaded penalties, go to the net and make life difficult for the other goalies, be more responsible defensively and stop skating like a figure skater or standing around like a statue.

I could let pass the lack of goals or points production if the guy would play hard and compete. He is completely invisible out there. He cannot even hit. He has done the impossible. He has made himself invisible.

Like with pretty much everybody on the team, I'll be interested to see how Clarkson performs under a new coach. He'll have a much shorter rope with me than anybody else in that situation, but it's just very hard to really judge players right now.

edit: I re-read this and it almost sounded like I didn't think Clarkson's actually sucked this season. So just to clarify, Clarkson's sucked this season. Really, really badly.

Easy there champ, as a father of a figure skater, I can tell you that they generally are stronger skaters than hockey players.

The fact that a good number of skating coaches in the NHL/Junior ranks are ex figure skaters should point to that.

I have no problem with you slagging Clarkson, just don't drag the figure skaters down to his level..Carry on ;D

Don't the Leafs have a female figure skater as their skating coach? Goes to show how much their value their (figure skaters) skills.

Yup, Barb Underhill...and it's definitely helped JVR, who's skating now looks like night and day compared to when he was in Philadelphia.

If the locker room stuff is true and he is kind of loner there, he will hardly ever recover his old form.

So if that pro scout w/ 40 years experience is to believed he told his team: "I recommended him to our team as a third-liner with lots of grit who would stick his nose in there. Now I?m not sure what to think."

And the Leafs gave him how much money?

Yeah but nobody listens to Cliff Fletcher anyway.

So he's going to be bought out now?

There's been some suggestions that the team is considering it, but, I don't see it happening this summer.

Unless there's a can't miss trade or signing that's being held up by his cap hit, it wouldn't make any sense to buy him out after 1 season.
