Draft Pick Watch - WE PICKED NYLANDER!!1!!

Columbus needs 9 points and 0 regulation wins to eliminate the Leafs.  Columbus holds all of the cards in terms of eliminating the Leafs.  They have 7 games remaining (2 in hand on the Leafs), the Leafs at best can match Columbus on ROW and Columbus won the season series so they hold the ultimate tiebreaker.

Detroit needs 8 points and 3 regulation wins to eliminate the Leafs.  Detroit also holds all of the cards in terms of eliminating the Leafs.  They have 7 games remaining (2 in hand on the Leafs), the Leafs winning all 5 of their remaining games would only tie Detroit if the Wings goes 3-2-2.  Detroit holds the season series because they went 4-0-1 (Toronto went 1-2-1).

Winning yesterday was cute but this team eliminated themselves with that losing streak.

Columbus' remaining schedule:
-vs. Colorado
-@ Philadelphia
-vs. Chicago
-vs. New York Islanders
-vs. Phoenix
-@ Dallas
-@ Tampa Bay
-@ Florida

Detroit's remaining schedule:
-vs. Boston
-vs. Buffalo
-@ Montreal
-@ Buffalo
-@ Pittsburgh
-vs. Carolina
-@ St. Louis

Columbus' remaining schedule:
-vs. Colorado - Fighting for home ice
-@ Philadelphia - Fighting for home ice
-vs. Chicago - Fighting for home ice
-vs. New York Islanders - Rollover game
-vs. Phoenix - Fighting for playoff spot
-@ Dallas - Fighting for playoff spot
-@ Tampa Bay - Fighting for home ice
-@ Florida - Rollover game

Detroit's remaining schedule:
-vs. Boston - Biding time to stomp on WC#2
-vs. Buffalo - Rollover game
-@ Montreal - Fighting for home ice
-@ Buffalo - Rollover game
-@ Pittsburgh - Biding time to stomp on WC#1
-vs. Carolina - Rollover game
-@ St. Louis - Fighting for home ice in the WCF

Neither team has a super-easy schedule but there are a handful of games that are probable wins.

In contrast the Leafs have
- vs Bruins - Biding time for WC#2 (and in general own the Leafs)
- vs Winnipeg - Rollover game (with Maurice motivation)
- @ Lightning - Fighting for home ice
- @ Florida - Rollover game
- @ Senators - Rollover game (Ottawa rivalry and potential Leaf elimination game)

L K always the bringer of great news. Can we not just be hopeful until they get eliminated.

cute?  Wouldn't be my choice of adjectives.  Even Caryle said it wasn't a masterpiece.  I would describe it was a lucky win.

I'm going to guess, in the context of the Leafs, "cute" means harmless and of no consequence. Not positive adjectives for a big league sports team.

Living in Calgary let me tell you if there was 1 game to win for me this was the one. Nothing like listening to Flames fans and their annoying crap.  :)

Whats wrong with being hopeful for a good pick?

Just saw that TSN has a draft lottery tracker up:

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/feature/?id=115803

We currently have a 0.8% chance of winning the lottery. Last nights win cut our chances in half. Way to go Clarkson. The "best" we could do is a 6.2% chance if we finished 6th.

I hear ya. I live in BC now. It's actually not as bad these days because the Canucks are struggling so no one cares or talks about hockey anymore.

Detroit's magic number to eliminate the Leafs is down to 6 and 2 regulation wins.  They have 6 games left.  Hooray for 9th place.  Randy's the greatest.

The Leafs deserve everything they get this year, but I still really hope the two free points that Detroit got in January against LA don't come into play in their playoff drive.

Columbus' magic number is down to 7.  They win outright regardless of how they get those 7 points (6 games left).
Detroit's magic number is 6 + 2 regulation wins.  They also have 6 games remaining.

(Washington and NJ can still pass the Leafs by winning their games in hand)

NHL.com put some mock drafts up today: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=712635

There's three mocks, they have the Leafs taking William Nylander, Kasperi Kapanen, or some bum from the Soo.

8)  Good Ontario boy.

Columbus magic number - 3 (4 games remaining)
Detroit magic number - 2 (4 games remaining)

Neither team needs to win a game to make the playoffs over the Leafs at this point.
