End-of-season player evaluations, speculations

1.  Who was your MVP?  Lou - he did what was necessary to tank

2a.Who was your biggest disappointment? Holland - this was his best chance to show his worth.

2b.Who was your biggest pleasant surprise? Babcock - what he did with a bunch of scrubs is pretty remarkable

3a.Who was your pick for most underrated player? Marincin - he seemed much better than a 6-7 dman.

3b.Who was your pick for most overrated player? Part of me wants to say Kadri because of some people here, but I know he's a good player, so I'll go with Hunwick - hes a 6-7 dman and I don't get why he was on the top pairing with Reilly

4.  Which player will surprise us all by being traded this summer? Kadri

5.  Other than Nylander, which of the Marlies call-ups will make the team and have the biggest impact next year? Hyman

6.  How many points will Marner score for the Leafs next season? 45 - thanks to the powerplay

Who was your MVP?
Kadri and Reimer. Kadri showed that he has a really well rounded game. He's one of the few offensive players on the team who can play physical. He had tough match-ups all year and did well.

Who was your biggest disappointment?
Holland. Agreed with Avro; I was really hoping this would be his year to step up. I'm still generally happy with his play, but was hoping to see him be a scoring leader. Because of the prospects coming up, he's expendable.

Who was your biggest pleasant surprise?
Komarov. He really showed a well-rounded game that I didn't think he'd be able to maintain, but he did. I'm ignoring his good scoring numbers as they were really an anomaly. He's a keeper on this team and critical to helping the young guys. Though fairly expensive, he's the type of role-player a team like this needs.

Who was your pick for most underrated player?
I honestly think it was Phaneuf until he got traded. He's also overpaid, but I really think he was an excellent player. Of those who are left, probably Marincin; though it's not so much underrated as un-rated. I didn't really know what to expect.

Who was your pick for most overrated player?
This is a tough one for me. I'll go with Bernier in the sense that I believe Reimer to be the superior goalie.

Which player will surprise us all by being traded this summer?
JvR. Bozak, too, but that won't be very surprising to me. I think he's gone at the draft. Holland, too, sadly because I really like him. Though, if Bozak's gone and they don't draft Matthews, they might hang on to him to play some of the tougher minutes and shelter Marner.

Other than Nylander, which of the Marlies call-ups will make the team and have the biggest impact next year?
Soshnikov, without question. To me, this is basically money in the bank. I think he's the most NHL ready of the bunch and well suited to the NHL game. Though he hasn't played in NA, I won't be shocked to see Andreas Johnson up as well; I just have a hunch on him.

How many points will Marner score for the Leafs next season?
48. He'll be helped by playing in a sheltered role as Kadri and Nylander will be up against the tougher opposing players.

You know folks, I saw this post and now I gonna do this here and it's gonna be nice and the whole deal, so let's go.

Who was your MVP?
Okay listen up.  The only MVP that the Leafs have is Kadri.  I'm sorry, but it's true.  Even though that Ron Wilson nearly ruined the kid, that arrogant you-know-what.  He passes and does all that stuff out there, Kadri, good Canadian boy is the MVP.

Who was your biggest disappointment?
So I don't like to talk bad about people and all that stuff, and kick people when they are down and stuff.  But I have to say that that defencemen, what's his name, Marcin?, Maricino? you know that kid there.  If your that big and you can skate, then you should be hittin' guys.  Look at the way that guy just skates across the blue line right there.  Back in my day that guy would be dead.  If I was his coach he wouldn't play another minute.  That's what I call disappointment.

Who was your biggest pleasant surprise?
Pleasant surprise?  Pleasant surprise?  What kind of a question is that?  IT'S THE NHL!!!  They ALL need to play hard to be here.  I don't get surprised and all that, because I know when I see a player that can play hockey.

Who was your pick for most underrated player?
Folks, when you have a good old Canadian kid that skates and passes like Kadri, you can't treat him the way the Leafs treat him.  There that kid is, leading the team in his rookie year in the pre-season, got the most points on the team, flashing the magic hands and stuff, and they send him back to Junior.  I mean can you believe that?  They ruined him and they don't know what the got with him.

Who was your pick for most overrated player?
Now I'm not going to answer this here question cuz it's tough league.  It's hard to play in this here league, the greatest league in the world.  Smarten up!

Which player will surprise us all by being traded this summer?
I don't know who they are going to trade.  I don't know what that team there is doing.  I know who they should trade and that would Kadri cuz they're ruinin' him.  That kid there has done all of it and the Leafs just don't see it. It's sad, but they don't see it.

Other than Nylander, which of the Marlies call-ups will make the team and have the biggest impact next year?
Now the Leafs have some kids with talent and stuff, but let me tell you what this team is missing.  All last year other teams came in to their building and they run around and they hit guys like this and that and stuff.  So they need to call up Colton Orr.  You call up a guy like Orr and suddenly guys will get a little more room and guys start playing a little more loosey goosey and stuff like that there.  He's got great hands too, I mean do we have the clip of his goal last year?  Can we look at that clip?  No?  Well I mean he's a beauty!!! Colton Orr, now that's a hockey player.

How many points will Marner score for the Leafs next season?
My first year coaching the Bruins I had a guy by the name of Donnie Marcotte.  Now Donnie was a smaller left winger but he was a guy that covered the points and all that.  He'd go out to the point and block the shot from the defenceman and he wouldn't to any of those flamingo blocked shots either.  He would get in the way of the shot and not let it get through.  And I told him all the time "Donnie", I said "Donnie don't put your stick in front of the shot cuz you'll tip it and Gilby", who was our goalie at the time "Gilby won't be able to stop it".  Donnie listened to me and he wouldn't tip the shot so he played the game the way it was supposed to play and all that, and he got 61 points the first year that I was there, so if that kid there Marner takes away the shot from the point and doesn't tip shots then he could get 61 too.

Coulda used a Ritchie > Nylander comment somewhere, and a bit more Euro-bashing, but well done!

It took me reading that to realize that Don Cherry thinks and talks exactly like Donald Trump would if he were a Canadian hockey fan.

I especially like the Marner prediction.

Well, except for the liking the Muslim guy part.

Uh, not Kadri or Rielly.

Clearly, these are sign and trade deals. Duh.

More chance of a Kadri trade than a Rielly trade IMHO.  Kadri is very trade worthy now with interested teams not having to negotiate a new deal after trading for him.
