Enroth Signed [1 Year, 750k]

I,m looking at this move as the cup half full.  It's time to start making progress with this team.I think he's a descent backup.

Oh my god, this is becoming unbearable. This team has three or four great pieces for the future, and there are still people that want them to suck again this season. Obviously management is going to try to improve the team at this point. That's a good thing. Jesus Christ.

Enroth was the only signing we really needed to make this off season (oh, and Matthews). I saw no external move out there that would have moved the long term success needle significantly, so for the low cost of nearly nothing, we could have had a slightly higher chance of picking in the top 3.

Still, I'm most excited to see the burgeoning youth movement and all the lumps that will entail prior to true improvement.

And five is greater than four. They're not winning the cup this year; it'll be Matthews's, Marner's, and Nylander's rookie season. They'll play lots and probably lose lots, so why not have a team win as well? (picking up another high-end prospect)

Aside from acquiring Andersen, management hasn't shown they're trying particularly hard to win this year.

I think they'll make significant strides this season. That's not to say that by the time the all star break rolls around, there won't be more 'mysterious' injuries that sideline good players the rest of the way again. **Wait...was I just thinking that, or did I actually write it in the post?**

Honestly, by the time the All Star Break rolls around, I don't think it'll matter much. It usually takes a full season or two for young players to play at the level we're hoping for with the consistency the team needs for them to make those strides in terms of the standings. Obviously, there have been exceptions, but, odds are most of the Leafs' rookies will follow a more conventional development timeline. There's going to a lot of inconsistency from this team, especially early in the season. There will be flashes of brilliance, but, the team is pretty likely to put up a pretty poor record for the first half or so of the season.

I should probably have this post on my sig at this point but having great prospects is not the same thing as having great pieces.

This. A million times this. I think a number of people are basing their projections on next season's Leafs on the type of players they expect Matthews, Marner, Nylander, et al. to develop into rather than how they're likely to actually perform in their rookie seasons.

I won't get into the pieces/prospects things, but one thing I do know is this: between this guy, Rielly, Joffrey, and Auston, our team's orthography is just appalling.

Don't you mean "appilling"?

Well, at least the goalie department has been solved somewhat, at least for the time being.  The prospect pool looks promising, and the team has drafted wisely.  Of course, tanking eventually propelled them to secure Matthews.  So far, so good.  Everything requires patience, and if it means the Leafs finishing again in the bottom five, then so be it.  At some point, the Leafs will make the playoffs, it's just that no one's expecting it to happen fast.  Not even to necessarily tank again, but bottom something yes.

I defenitely see a movement forward, how far up only time will tell. We have amassed quite a large prospect pool and I can see package of young players being dealt from time to time for some of the missing pieces of the puzzle, will Leipsec ever make it, Leivo, Loov, Lindberg on a team with so many prospects ahead of them.
But all together could glean us either a higher level prospect or a very good draft pick.

Ok, waiting for the onslaught :'(

I think the package deal is inevitable. They can't all play. It's trying to determine who to "give up on"
and move is the difficult part. There's no doubt someone the Leafs move will turn out to be a mistake.

I think they will be better this year and certainly more entertaining with all the hoped-for kids on the roster.

We still need another high end prospect from next year's draft and I'd be happy with anything inside the Top 10.

Winning one of the 3 lottery picks would be great too, if I'm being asked... ;D

No one was asking?.LOL

Nobody is going to make a four quarters for a dollar prospect deal. Ask yourself if you'd ever want the Leafs to make that sort of deal.

You can move guys out in a two for one or three for one sort of thing but you're not going to get a really good prospect in return.

Enroth has replaced Robin Lehner for Team Sweden at the World Cup.

This means that the Leafs will be missing both their goalies when their training camp begins. Shooting on Sparks and Bibeau should be a good confidence boost for Nylander and Marner.

Brings the number of Leafs participating in the tournament to 9 + Babcock (unless I'm missing someone):

Matthews
JVR
Komarov
Michalek
Rielly
Polak
Zaitsev
Andersen
Enroth
