Points only - Am I nuts to be taking Datsyuk over OV? I tweeted Dobber and asked for his advice. He said OV but I think I'll stick with Datsyuk.  :-\

Ovie. Datsyuk has been even more disappointing than Ovie the last two years. Also, I like an offensive coach in Oates taking things over in Washington. It bodes well for a resurgence in classic Ovie.

I've got 2 drafts tonight.

Anyone have any players that are ranked WAY to low in the crappy yahoo rankings? Havlat's ranked 350th, behind 3rd liners and backup goalies. Hemsky and Briere are also ranked very low.

Sidney Crosby at 4th.

Concussion issues. I think people are afraid he's damaged goods.

I know why, I don't buy it though.

I'm glad people are thinking that way since it allowed be to pick him .

We'll see in a couple of months I guess.

Just finished my draft. The league scores G, A, P, PIMS, SHP, SOG, FW. Unfortunately I drafted 5th so I couldn't snag any of the top 4 I wanted: Malkin, Crosby, Giroux, Ovie.

C: Henrik Sedin, Anze Kopitar, Patrice Bergeron
LW: Milan Lucic, Loui Eriksson, Logan Couture
RW: Jason Pominville, Wayne Simmonds, Teddy Purcell
D: Erik Karlsson, Kevin Bieksa, Dan Hamhuis, Brent Burns
Bench: Stephen Weiss, Erik Cole, Zach Bogosian
G: Jimmy Howard, Niklas Backstrom, Brian Elliott

I tried to have a good balance between PIMS and Pts (Simmonds, Lucic). Bergeron is also good for pts and is a faceoff wizard. Also have a bunch of guys with high shot totals like Karlsson, Pominville and Couture.

The only problem is I'm pretty weak in goal scoring - I only have thre 30 goal scorers from last year in Couture, Cole and Pominville. Its hard to imagine they'll all repeat.

Assessment? Brayden Schenn is also available but Im not sure he'll be a better pickup than Cole or Weiss. Michael Ryder is also still available on waivers.

Thoughts on a potential deal...

I get Roman Josi and a 1st rounder

for

Nate Gerbe and a prospect of no consequence.

I wonder if Gerbe gets a bigger role with the Sabres when healthy and if he has upside he hasnt shown yet.

Mainly pts league (W's and Sv's for the goalies):

Move: Turris

Get: Ryan and Nabokov

Ryan's not started off great but not horrible either. My goalies are starting to come around (Reimer, Ward) just as Nabokov has hit a little bit of a rough patch.

Thoughts?

All you have to do is move Turris to get Bobby Ryan AND a starting goalie? Do it. Do it now.

Reviving this thread from last year to get some opinions:

Points pool, where PIM, Hits and Blocked Shots are taken into consideration:

Brad Marchand (who I have, but has had a slow start to the season)
for
Milan Michalek

Thoughts?  Michalek has way more points and hits so far this season, and Marchand doesn't have a single penalty yet.  But does Marchand have more upside (and Michalek a tad more injury prone?)

Big thing with Michalek is injuries. If he's healthy he will produce, esp. if he's on the Spezza/Ryan line.  Me? I take my chances with Michalek.

As someone who owns Michalek in one of my leagues, if someone offered my Marchand I'd do that trade.

Michalek is too injury prone and Marchand is going to be more of a guarantee to receive good minutes.

I offered Steen for Vanek just now in one of my ESPN Roto leagues (G, A, +/-, PIM, SOG, PP pts, ATOI) and I'm immediately doubting it.  :-\ Thoughts?

Steen can't (read shouldn't) keep up his current pace, so he'll likely get worse, while Vanek should get a boost from playing with Tavares.

That's all based on the fact that I don't think Steen will be able to maintain his 90+goal, 130+ point pace, but hey, what do I know? At this point, Steen may end up being the better all-around fantasy player

Yeah, that looks like a classic buy low, sell high swap.

I think you're getting the upper hand out of that.

I like it. Even if Steen somehow manages to somewhat maintain his current stats, I think it's fair to say that Vanek will have him beat in SOG and PP points. TOI and PIM will be a wash. That just leaves G, A, and +/-. Steen will have him beat for sure in +/-, regardless of how much he scores. So right now Vanek is ahead in two categories, tied in two, and trailing in one. And that's without looking at goals and assists, something that Vanek would historically beat Steen in.

The only thing I would have tried to do as well would have been to say swap one of your defencemen for a better defenceman on his team. Just to try and take advantage of Steen's hot start a little more. But considering that Vanek's value just got a huge boost itself with the trade, it might not be something the other guy bites on.

Thanks for the feedback guys, certainly made me feel better about it.

Nice assessment Carlton, and the +/- was a legit concern for me but overall my team is doing pretty well in that category so I think I can shoulder that blow.

It's true though, maybe I could have been more aggressive in terms of the D-swap although the only d-man he has that is outright better than any of mine is Weber.

And yeah #1PF it's hard to imagine that Steen can maintain his current pace or even a PPG pace going forward but anything is possible.

Either way appreciate the feedback from all. Would love to repay the favour if anyone has any fantasy queries.

Maybe not the best place to post this but since we were discussing Steen earlier, he got his 14th goal tonight.

He has scored in 12 of 14 games.

He has at least a point in 13 of 14.

Oh and by the way he's also the top PKing fwd on the Blues.

EDIT: Sorry didn't see the posts in the NHL thread. Moving some of this there.
