was there a purpose to that PP? I couldn't see what they were trying to accomplish. Matthews never really in shooting position.

Oh well, on to the next game.

For the most part, he wasn't on any of the PPs.  Most apparent was the 5 on 3.  That was criminal.

As much as I?d like him to be successful, I just don?t see Barabanov as a legitimate NHL player at this point.
Who really knows? He showed something tonight but like most of the team, nothing clicked. Give him the same opportunity Vesey got early in the year and see what he can do.

At best, he?s a 4th line energy type. He skates hard, and, umm, yeah. I don?t think he?ll be in the NHL next season.

Hutchinson in net. Oh boy. No confidence in this guy whatsoever. Prove me wrong Mikey.
K bro you'll witness it.
I'll just leave now

This is what you get when you have to sign scrubs to fill in spots.

Yeah, the Leafs really should have signed a NHL calibre guy to be their 4th goalie.

Hard when you don't have cash to spend.

I think you missed the joke.  They had 3 NHL goalies and lost Dell to waivers, now two are injured.  Hutch is the best you can expect

Ya I did miss that. Also I'm not one to crunch numbers, cap issues etc but why didn't they put Hutch on waivers? If that was possible I'd rather see what Dell could do. We saw what Hutch did last year and for the life of me no idea why he was brought back.

I?m just catching up so forgive me if it?s a repeat but of course Hutchinson was on waivers, and he cleared.  The Leafs broke camp with three goalies and had to waive Dell when injuries started.

I think the fact you just seem to assume management doesn?t know what it?s doing undercuts your credibility, which is a shame because aside from a few obvious biases I think some of your observations are quite valid.

Forgive me if I didn't remember that. Like I said I don't follow all the cap crunching etc so didn't recall who was put on waivers etc.Bottom line is you think they could have found something better but when you don't have much space what do you expect. Leafs are going to have to make some decisions or a trade when it comes to goaltending. Is Campbell a bonafide #1? Is Freddy the guy that's going to win us a cup? My opinion is no to both of those.

Tavares is really starting to get on my nerves.

17 points on the season is nice and all, but not once this year has he dominated a game.

His already average skating looks to be worse than it was.

It would be nice if he looked like an 11 million dollar player every few games.

Nylander has been utterly skewered again by the media and yet Jonny Taranna gets a free pass.

I'm just going off body language, but I don't think Matthews and Marner like the guy. They seem to like to have fun and maybe Tavares is too serious? He doesn't seem right. Something's up mentally that is really affecting his game.

Not sure how much is mental and how much might be physical but he is definitely not playing like the John Tavares we signed. If this is what we get going forward, the Leafs are in big trouble.

I won?t pretend to know what if what doesn?t make JT tick, but his skating seems laboured to me.  He?s just not getting to pucks CB or driving play like he typically does.  I think he was better at the start of the year, so maybe something physical is troubling him.

Well that was a dud. Rittich has some horseshoes up his ass this game. You also kind of knew with the amt of personnel injured and last minute need to play the third string goalie that it had all the markings of a crappy game. Ah well. Next please!

I was half-facetious a few days ago when I said he may have passed his peak.  He plays a bruising game and he's getting older, so....

But really I just think he's going through a tough streak.  He works as hard as ever so we'll see if things start going in for him.

Putting him on the wing with Marner and Matthews didn't work at all though.

It's also worth mentioning that if Corey Crawford didn't suddenly retire in the middle of New Jersey's training camp then Aaron Dell would probably be a Leaf right now.

Keep up the Nylander trade discussion guys. Maybe my suggestion back in the summer to trade him for a high draft pick in order to free some room to try and sign Pietrangelo won?t look so bad. :)

A defenceman on pace for 34 points this season? Hard pass for $8.8mil.

Yeah those numbers don't look great, but at this point he'd be an upgrade 1 for 1 over Nylander . Thats not even taking into account the potentially high 1st round draft pick.

So we'd have Pietrangelo but no Nylander and no Brodie...Exactly how is that an upgrade?

Well I certainly wouldn't mind prying Tom Wilson out of Washington. Nylander on the other side of Ovie would be pretty nice and he'd be free to play outside of the spotlight of Toronto. Has an extra year on his deal too.

I wouldn't give up Nylander for Wilson. He's nowhere near the same level.

I was thinking something along the lines of Nylander +depth  for Wilson and a 1st or top prospect, adds a little cap relief and that extra 1st would come in handy to address the upcoming goaltending situation/other other needs. Who knows, it's also possible Washington wouldn't deal Wilson for him straight up, can't gauge a lot of the GM's out there.
