Game Notes

CGY
?Chad Johnson (16-11-1, 2.41 GAA, .917 Sv%) will likely start for the Flames
?Johnson is just 3-7-0 with a .887 Sv% in his last 11 games though, opening the door for Brian Elliott to potentially win back the starters job
?The Flames are coming off an ugly 7-3 loss to the Edmonton Oilers Saturday night
?Sean Monahan has goals in 5-straight games, and 22 points in his last 25 games
?On the flip-side, Sam Bennett is pointless in 11 games and was a healthy scratch last week
?Calgary currently holds the final wild card spot in the West, but has 4 teams breathing down their necks

TOR
?Andersen (19-10-8, 2.69 GAA, .918 Sv%) will start for the Leafs
?No updates on Rielly yesterday, so safe to assume for now he won't be returning yet
?Auston Matthews is pointless in 2 games, that's the first time you could say that about him in a little over 2 months

Injuries

?Garnet Hathaway - Upper Body - Injured Reserve
?Ladislav Smid - Neck - Out for season
Code:

?Nathan Horton - Back - Out indefinitely
?Joffrey Lupul - ?\_(ツ)_/? - Out indefinitely
?Stephane Robidas - Old - Out indefinitely
?Ben Smith - Hand - Injured Reserve
?Morgan Rielly - Ankle - Day to day

Kudos to Stajan for keeping himself in the game.  He's over 900 career games played now, pretty good for a guy that was never a top 6 player.

When he was first with the Leafs they pegged him as a good 2-way center who makes smart plays and gets the most out of his skillset.  And that's pretty much what he became.  I don't recall anyone on this board back then who didn't like him.

He kind of epitomizes a "pro's pro."

Agreed. The strongest criticism was mostly that he was put into a role he wasn't suited for - which, obviously, not his fault.

The Hyman/Matthews/Brown line has been cold the past couple of games.

With Hyman getting most of the good chances...
Anyway, I will like the 2 points tonight. Go Leafs Go!

C'mon Buds, do it for Shanny's birthday!

As long as the Leafs 'hate' the way they were embarrassed by the way Calgary showed them up in their last meeting this season, they should be good to go.

The last time they played Calgary, the Leafs were lacklustre because they said in addition to being the second night of a back-to-back, they had a hard time playing with emotion, due to the lack of rivalry. The tooling they got in Calgary should serve as good motivation to rectify that tonight.

They gotta find the 'rivalry' spark and give their President an appropriate birthday gift.

GO LEAFS GO!!!

I guess you didn't need to be a linguist to get a phys-ed degree from McGill in '86?  Or become a teacher for that matter...

Even better.  Do it for Uncle Leo's BIG THREE-OHHHH!

I forgot about the drive-train too.  "Shanny had a drive train that wouldn't quit, so I expect nothing less from my guys tonight. Be a real gud pro, keep the drive train moving and let's win this thing tonight!"
