Game 38 - Toronto Maple Leafs @ Winnepeg Jets L3-2

Geez, Healy even makes the Leafs injuries sound like they're the Leaf's fault.  That guy is unapologetically biased.

Nice, Dion wouldn't give him an interview.  I hope that was personal, even though it probably wasn't.

Why wont Wilson put different players out there on the PK?  I just can't understand it.  He refuses to make adjustments and it just gets worse.

13 different players have averaged at least 1:00 of PK time a game for the Leafs.

OK, disregard the defenseman, as that inflates the numbers.  Has Kessel and Lupul average 1 minute of PK time?

How awesome is it that the Leafs won't have a win since the Wilson extension?

Just shows how stupid Burke has become and putting his ego before the needs of the team.

Stick by your buddy Burkie it'll get you fired along with him!

They said the extension was done weeks ago.

That's even more idiotic then. Give a coach an extension while he's proven he can consistently coach the worst defensive team in hockey

Don't they have the second best offensive production from their d in the league?

I know that's not 'defensive' but it's a consequence, it' s not a total endorsement either.

If Kessel is hurt for any period of time, we're done.  Just not enough secondary scoring to compensate.

Am I the only one who thought the shot (not exactly a howitzer) went off the skate blade and not the boot?

I saw it a few times in slo-mo and I couldn't see how that hurt him. After the shot he skated perfectly fine and didn't look as if it bothered him until the whistle.

Weird.

Disregard the D? Ooookay.

There are a further 3 players with about half a minute or so PK/time a game to their credit.

Lupul and Kessel are among 5 players who have had little to no PK time.  Lupul has looked particularly brutal defensively 5 on 5, at things like getting the puck out, so I don't see why anyone would want him on the PK.

I thought the same.

I thought that too. Hopefully that's why he took his boot off in the room. Maybe it broke the blade.

Sorry, I guess my point wasn't obvious enough...

Why the HELL arent Kessel and Lupul killing penalties?  Don't give me any defense stats 5 on 5, the Leafs have the worst PK in 11 years.  Kessel and Lupul would atleast be aggressive because they would still be looking to score ala Sundin and Mogliny.

PK has never been about being good defensively, its the biggest mistake coaches make.  PK is about attacking the puck in cohesion.  The leafs try to be defensively sound the PK, i.e. sit in the lanes, you have to attack the puck.

What drives me absolutely nuts is when the opposing teams shoot from the point, they get the pucks through and it typically winds up in the back of the net, but when then Leafs are on the PP and the d-men have the puck, they can never seem to get it through, with the exception of Liles.

If it wasn't for all of those PP's, Winnipeg would have had no offensive pressure whatsoever tonight.  Once again, we're the better 5 on 5 team.  Frustrating.
