Game 44: Islanders @ Leafs - Apr. 18, 7:00pm - LeafsTV, TSN 1050

After last season's collapse, this team needs to get all the way to the finish line before I will feel safe. If they weren't being outplayed so badly the last little while, I wouldn't be worried at all.

I understand, but statistically there really is no reason to worry.  It would take a complete collapse by us AND a whole bunch of other improbable stuff to happen with the teams chasing us for that to happen.

Wow, what a putrid performance through 2 periods. This team needs to wake up... and fast... or it could fall right out of the playoffs. They have been playing that badly.

That would be hilarious, and somehow, fitting.

so true....Once a realized how close they were a few games ago I couldn't believe it.  Since then they've been terrible

You are right. I am just in one of those moods after a stressful day and thinking I had lost my work phone when I got home. Couple that with Dickey leaving the Jays game early for some unknown reason and the Leafs not showing up, I probably overreacted - I get pretty negative sometimes. However, I am still very worried about the way they are playing. This team playing this way goes out in four or five games in the first round. I at least want some entertainment! :)

the leafs are either gassed...or not focused ...like i know the islanders are playing well lately..but the team just looks disinterested half the time..and flustered the other half

Give them a break, they aren't used to playing hockey this late into April, they should be hitting the links and on vacation.

All kidding aside, they need to wake up and soon, only 4 games left after tonight.

Man the cynics saying the Leafs are lucky the season isn't long enough for them to collapse might have been right.

If we lose this one we'll have 53 pts after 44 games.  Last season it was 49 pts after 44 games and then we skidded to finish 12 pts out of a playoff spot.

I know it's only 2-3 bad games but the long skids are what we've avoided so far season, Carlyle has to get this thing turned around or we are going to get murdered in the playoffs.

If we even get there...Winnipeg is winning again and we are losing again...

No worries comrade.  We'll be watching them in the playoffs in a couple of weeks, of that I'm sure.

I am totally disgusted the way they have been outplayed but not too concerned about missing the playoffs. Only thing that has me frustrated is due to the poor play we probably took ourselves out of a chance to get home ice. Don't think the Bruins are as good as previous years but much better team than ours but I don't think the Habs are near the team that they seem to be. Personally think with a good home stretch to the end of the season we could of overtaken them. Still can I think but not by playing the way they are. Not too sure if home ice means all that much in a series like that but I would rather have it.

I hate to agree with Millen but there's no doubt the complexion of the game changed drastically after those two fights. The Leafs had all the momentum going into them after the 2 goals and the big PK kill and then *poof*.

What was the added benefit to the Leafs in entertaining even one never mind two fights at that time?

was it the fights? or the two penalties for playing hockey?  ..the first one they killed off..the second one they didn't ..they played differently after that

Yeah, I just went into the standings thread and re-read the part where it says they have >99.95% chance of making the playoffs, so I realized I was being a little ridiculous. I don't know how my wife puts up with me. ;D
