Game 44: Islanders @ Leafs - Apr. 18, 7:00pm - LeafsTV, TSN 1050

The winner of the division is going to end up being who played the least horrible down the stretch.

So Carkner gets to hold Kessel up the entire ice and that isn't interference how exactly?

He didn't hold him, Kessel purposely stayed engaged with him so he didn't get hammered thru the boards. If kessel wanted to he could have easily touched that puck first....makes me sick.

There are a lot of things to feel sick about in this game. Kessel get interfered with by a much larger Matt Carkner is not one of them. Maybe you can conserve your drama queen act for something worthwhile.

They killed their own momentum with their stupid defensive game. 2 weak goals by Reimer didn't help.

Now let's watch the Leafs defend a 3-2 deficit for 40 minutes. Their 40% shooting percentage is totally sustainable.

What other goal from Reimer was bad? The third one he probably should have had, but the first was cross crease one timer, and the second a deflection.

You can't fault Reimer after all the solid play he's given us lately.

I don't understand this belief that a deflected puck is unstoppable. I don't care if Wayne Gretzky banked it off the scoreboard. He should not get beat 5 hole on a deflection when he's already in the butterfly.

Drama queen?
Sorry for watching what is really happening in the game...I will refrain from posting my realistic observations from now on.

Another thing: Why are the forwards always so damn far up the ice? There was one play where all three of them were above the red line. That's just ridiculous. There is too much separation between the forwards and the defence. It's no wonder Fraser ices the puck all the time. They need more puck support.

That's a silly argument. When the puck is deflected it opens up your five hole. Unless you've played goalie you'd have no idea.

Are we being outshot at all?

It's not about the shots, it's about the scoring chances. Anyone can tell you that. ;)

6 shots on goal in almost 30 minutes. 47 shots in the last 7.5 periods played.
That's definitely a winning formula.

I think what scares me most is starting Saturday night, and then continuing Monday, this team looks like the team from last year. They get scored on and stop moving their feet. It was evident tonight once the game went to 2-1.

Okay I don't mean to be a downer (really, I don't), but this team is NOT a playoff team (YET) with such a low shot percentage.

Still an improvement overall from last year but I think it will take a bit longer to be a convincing post season team.

And honestly, unless they seriously address their shooting issues among other things, I would rather them miss the postseason than to get their asses handed to them in the first round. This team deserves to go far when they make it in but not when they're playing like this.

I don't think you can say they're not a playoff team, when they're in a playoff spot.

And half of the 16 teams that make the playoffs are out after the 1st round.

I don't like the way this team is playing..but you can't expect a team that's missed the playoffs 9 years to suddenly be a contender for the cup.

I agree, we're not fully polished by any stretch yet but I would give anything to pound the habs on the last day of the season and then mop the floor with em in round 1 before we run into a team built for speed and stanley in round 2.

Small victories I guess maybe but i never had cup aspirations for this season or the next couple to be honest. All in good time hopefully.

The biggest thing I am noticing is the Leafs seem to be confused on their assignments in the defensive zone which didn't seem to be a problem earlier in the season.
