Game 62: Capitals @ Maple Leafs, 7:00 CBC

Ummm the atmosphere in the building is bad, cause the Leafs are playing horrible....going on the road won't necessarily fix that.

I wasn't really buying into the whole "Allaire is ruining these goalies" thing, but I at least have to question if he's been a positive influence.  I guess only time will tell.

Same here.  Still ... to have both of these guys going south -- especially Reimer, who looks just like Giguere crouching down in goal -- makes me wonder.

The reality is this.... This team was destined to fail with Wilson at the helm.  How many other organizations would give this guy 2-3 lifelines?  He got San Jose into the Conference Finals purely because of the depth of his roster, not his coaching abilities.  The best thing the Leafs could have done was get rid of him mid-season and bring in an experienced coach like Hitchcock, who despite being a taskmaster, instills work ethic and defensive responsibility into his teams.  St. Louis did what Burke should have done and it is paying off in spades for them.

Secondly, we need to quit kidding ourselves with our expectations.  This team has shown an ability to play well strictly when there is no pressure (when we are mathematically, or close to being mathematically eliminated).  This is simply unacceptable and, furthermore, proves that this team lacks focus, leadership, and other intangibles.  Imagine what a coaching change would have brought this team in September?  Perhaps even a veteran leadership presence?  Burke is sabotaging himself with his nepotism.  The potential our youth once demonstrated is quickly fading and something must be done to right this ship.

Leafs had some good chances there, but had a lot of fanned and missed shots, then a low percentage play by Kessel and the puck is out.

The one saving grace tonight, as someone mentioned earlier, no Healey during the game. I can't imagine what the commentary would have been like if he was on.

I usually have fun and all but even I am disappointed in the Leafs.

Sellers again huh?  I was wondering if we had enough blue chip players or just mostly filler.  How long to be a 'Detroit Redwing" like roster??

At this current rate?  Probably another 14 years.

I tell you, this will sound completely far-fetched but I think a fundamental rethink of the core of the team is in order.  I just have some deep-seated doubts whether this team will ever achieve much built around Kessel and Phaneuf.  They are both talented but flawed players who lack inner mettle.  Neither strikes me as the team leader really need.

It will if they don't return.

Hopefully many of them will be gone by 3 p.m. on Monday.

Not far fetched at all.

This roster needs a serious rethink. It is beginning to appear as if the last 4 years have been wasted.

That is exactly what I am getting at.  There are some Leafs that I think are solid for their roles, others are not quite up to par.

The 3 players I definitely keep are Lupul, Gardiner and maybe Gunnarsson.  It's hard to think of names beyond those three that I would really miss. (Grabs would be one if not for his contract status).

Quick Burke, trade Army.

I get the sarcasm but it does beg the question: One goal to go with 16 assists and frequently injured, @ $3M per season, what would he bring of value.

Now how much does Brown make on the Kings?
