Game of Thrones (S7)

Spoilers allowed for any aired episodes, so beware!

Thought this was a great season premiere. With the condensed season I sort of expected all the episodes to have a little more going on, but I'm fine with this one being more of a table-setting device. Should pick up now that everyone is where they should be.

The Sansa/Jon dynamic is probably what I'm most interested in right now. I was so excited to see some Starks finally reunited, so it's kind of sad to see them in a power struggle now.

Someone really needs to have a word with the showrunners re: the Ed Sheeran cameo.

Overall I liked the episode. I'm a little leery about the show shifting from what seemed to be a meditation on politics and power struggles to "Whose magic powers will win the day" but I suppose that was inevitable to some extent.

Binge watched the six seasons a couple months ago.

Wife and I agreed we'd wait for the S7 BluRay.  Signed up for HBO at 8:55pm last night.

I was waiting for Arya to stab Ed Sheeran. Maybe next episode.

It's gonna suck having to go from bingeing to week-to-week, but yeah you still made the right call I think.

YES!

Immediately after it was over we looked at each other and said "One more?!!???!?"

"Oh........never mind"

As an added bonus along with HBO have CraveTV now as well and started watching LetterKenny.

That cameo was cringe worthy. Absolutely took me out of the suspension of disbelief.

There's a ton of GOT's content out there to read after each episode, but this Q&A-ish one is generally the one I look forward to the most:

Someone here pointed me to do last season or the season before that. It's done by someone with very clear knowledge about the books and usually answers some pressing questions someone without that knowledge might have.

Something that bothered me more than Sheeran: the doors leading to Dragonstone opening inwards. WTF defensive fortification engineers? Is it a hinge thing? A door bar thing?

I didn't even know that was Ed Sheeran until I read about it after the episode. But I didn't even know who Ed Sheeran was until a couple weeks ago.

So I missed the end. What did Theon do? Yara got thrown over by Uron? Kind of weird they didn't take him into account. Kinda fucks the fleet now.

He jumped overboard, leaving Yara with Euron.

Theon being Theon. Don't be Theon.

I half expected him to mutter "my name is Reek!" right before jumping. You could see the transformation back to him going on in his eyes.

edit: Although I will say this, that was probably the smart thing to do vs. getting killed or captured.

So where are people on what seems to be the most contentious point from last night's episode, whether Arya's encounter with her dire wolf was largely meaningless or if it convinced her to not continue north but head on to King's Landing?

Yeah, I imagine it's going to have some significance. It'd be weird for them to just have a scene to prove Nymeria is still alive and well and that's it. Nymeria chose not to go back home because she's not the same wolf she used to be. Pretty obvious parallel there.

I think she still goes north and keeps an eye on things with Baelish possibly trying to take on more power. Was that actually Nymeria though? It sounded like she said "It's not you" after the encounter.

It wasn't meant in a literal sense:

So in the end, Nymeria decided to roam free with her pack rather than staying with Arya. And according to showrunner D.B. Weiss in the ?Inside the Episode? segment, Arya?s final words to Nymeria, ?That?s not you,? are a reference to something she herself told her father back in season one. (When Ned said she?d grow up to be a lady, Arya said, ?That?s not me.?)
