Don't look now but Leafs have the same record as the LA Kings.
Now if we can just knock off 43 goals against!

And change a bunch of those shootout wins into ROWs, we could be at the same level as a team playing their way out of the playoffs in the West!

Looking ahead, the Leafs play Montreal on March 1st.  Could wind up being a huge game, as by then Montreal will have played the 2 games they have in hand.  Feels like forever from now, though.

Put Orr in the starting line-up and good things will happen.

The decision to stick with Bozak and let Grabovski go has to be looking better for Leaf fans now.

It really does.  It's just the part where we paid Grabovski to leave that still stings.  (I miss the General, too.)

Did MLSE ask you to pay the bill?

Yes.  Have you seen ticket prices these days?  lol

McKegg down, Smithson up.

That's it for McKegg already?  Kid only played 3:43.  Sure, he was 1/6 on faceoffs, but I'd like to think Carlyle is above dressing a player just to take 6 faceoffs.

...

Who am I kidding, that sounds exactly like Carlyle.

Since the fourth line wouldn't be taking any offensive zone face-offs (that'd be the top two lines' job), the 3rd and 4th line centres really do need to be able to win face-offs in the defensive zone.

If McKegg can't do that well enough, then yeah, I wouldn't be putting him in that role at this point.

That may be why they bring in Smithson.

Well, or Carlyle thinks that he'll have Holland back for next game and would rather have Smithson in the pressbox/as an emergency forward instead of McKegg so that McKegg can get back to his role with the Marlies

@DavidAlter590

Carlyle also added that Holland, Ashton and Smith will not play tomorrow.

Don't even know the point of calling McKegg up if that's what's going to happen.  What can you learn in that amount of time with the big club that is going to be useful for your development?  Don't think it's a big deal, but also don't see the point in going to the effort.

More to do with cap issues than anything else?

My guess is that it was in the hope that one of the injured players would be able to be back for tomorrow's game. McKegg could safely travel up and down without waivers, whereas Smithson could not. In fact, Smithson being brought up makes me think that we won't see any of the injured players before the Olympics.

Okay, that makes good sense.

The cap difference between McKegg and Smithson is less than $1000 per day they're on the roster, so, no, not likely due to anything with the cap.

Or, and someone who's been watching the Marlies can maybe speak to this more, maybe McKegg has been playing well recently and the organization thought he merited a promotion so that his first NHL game could be the experience of playing in the Battle of Ontario, at the ACC and on HNIC.

I don't think that should mean that they want him in that Carlyle-style 4th line role going forward and I'd guess that McKegg was actually pretty jazzed about the experience, crummy ice time notwithstanding.
