anyone know where Colton Orr is playing if he is?
I'll never understand Burke giving a 5-minutes-a-night enforcer 1 million a year. Many guys could have done the job better and for the league minimum.

Not to nitpick but this is a drop in the bucket compared to a guy like Komi.

I'll never understand Burke giving an 8-minutes-a-night defensive defenceman 4.5 million a year. Many guys could have done the job better and for the league minimum.

Better?

Oh yeah!! Might as well throw in Colby as well.

Yeah. I mean, $1M wasn't significantly ahead of the going rate for enforcers either - most were getting contracts in the $800K-$900K range. If there's an issue with the Orr contract, it's the length, not the value. 4 years is too long to commit to a guy like that.

And not to belabour old arguments, but the length is especially absurd given that our GM doesn't believe in deals >5 years in length.  How you give Orr 4 years but then argue that giving 6 or 7 years isn't something you will do is kind of silly.

I don't know how other folks feel about Kulemin but I've completely lost confidence in him being a viable top 6 forward. Now, having said that, I think he's got the skills to be a dynamite 3rd line forward (and has shown it.) He's so solid defensively and can generate a a little bit of offence on the forcheck but I'd be shocked if he ever gets close to 30 goals again.

EDIT: and don't get me started on Mac... I hope he's a gonner at or before the deadline.

I really wouldn't mind seeing a shut-down/grind line of Kulemin-Kadri-Komarov to see if Kadri can get Kulemin's game jump-started.

you'd have to think the thing holding that back is kadri on the faceoffs.  until he can get closer to 50% on a nightly basis anyway otherwise your shutdown line is going to lose a lot of draws

At the same time, Kulemin/Komarov bookending a line with McClement could be a SOB to play against.

That could be a nice line to put out in our next game against Boston.

The problem with Boston is their depth.  They don't have 1 great line; they have several good lines.

He's skating well and making generally smart plays, but yeah it looks like his confidence is a little shot.  It can't be helping him to have Grabo as a line-mate, who apart from a couple breaks when another player does all the work, has has been offensively impotent this year.  Constant giveaways, bad passes, no creativity, weak on the puck.  I think Kulemin would have a much better chance of being productive with someone else at center.

I don't know that I'd put that all on Grabo who I think has produced at a decent pace considering how they're using him(He's got 4 points at ES compared to Kessel having 5) but I do think that Kulemin might be the kind of guy who can be a good complimentary top 6 winger if his linemates are producing and clicking but that he's not the kind of guy who, by his own steam, can really do much to turn a line into an efficient scoring line.

Just get him Malkin again, problem solved.

Yeah I was overstating things a bit.  But I do think Kulemin's general strength and hockey sense make him more than just a defensive specialist, in the right situation.
