Grabovski Bought Out

It's not a great excuse given that Kadri did just fine in the situation but I felt like a lot of the PP-time the 2nd unit got was trying to pick up the pieces of ineffective 1st unit 1:30 long shifts.

There's some truth to that. Thing is there was some truth to it the year before too where Grabovski was significantly more effective. The thing about Grabovski's season is that the truth lies in the middle of the "He's a bum get rid of him" and the "He would have won an Art Ross if he'd started 5.8% more of his face-offs in the neutral zone" positions. He stunk, he played pretty well in a third line role and the team had to address those realities going forward.

Absolutely.  He had a subpar year.  Not enough production.  Put in a difficult situation to produce.  It was also a 48 game season.

His previous 3 years he averaged 55 points/82 games.  In comparison Bozak averaged 45 points/82 games over those same 3 years.  Again, a moot point as both might/are likely gone this year but one bad year seems like a harsh jump to determine that he was not an acceptable cap hit.  To me, if we are looking for Bolland to be a top 6 forward it really is stacking deck chairs on a sinking ship.  Sure he'll produce more if you give him PP time and top 6 offensive zone time, but it just means you put an inferior player in place in the defensive role.

Ryan Kennedy @THNRyanKennedy
Biggest concern for Leafs fans about Grabbo buyout would be him signing with new division rival Detroit. Look at how he played against Habs

It's also a little unfair because Bozak's 10-11 season was his first full season in the NHL and he slumped a little and I don't really think it's indicative of who he is as a player going forward. Or, to look at it another way, you say one bad year isn't enough to make any determinations and I think that goes for Bozak as well as Grabo.

Anyways, I've made my feelings known. I think Nonis is stealthily blowing the team up.

Grabbo clears waivers.

Pretty telling if you ask me. If the Leafs really made a huge mistake, he would have been picked up.

Grabbo will burn the Leafs many times in the coming years.

And 28 other teams who passed on him?

I'm just talking about how he plays against former teams. We've seen it when he plays the habs. He'll be extra fired up to score against the Leafs. Especially when Randy is behind the bench.

You have to measure performance against the opportunity given. In 2013, Grabbo was given significantly less opportunity to put up points. That's a very solid observation based upon the facts.

Where was this way of thinking when Wellwood was around ;-)

I agree.  He was really hungry when he played against the Habs, especially last year.

Before this move I have been totally supporting every decision Nonis has made thus far, but this one is still has me fired up.
Wtf? If you want a slower defensively challenged Centre I guess Bozak is your man.... So lets be prepared for another season of being hemmed in our zone for prolonged periods.
>:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

So now we know what Nonis needed the money for.

And now we know it was hilariously and predictably awful.

I'll accept mea culpas here from those who said Nonis had something "big" up his sleeve at C.

....at his current salary and cap hit. I don't think it's telling, at all; and is pretty meaningless.

Except it's pretty clear that he's not exactly a top priority as a UFA either.

That's fine, but not sure what it has to do with him not being picked up on waivers, just like every other player who's been bought out.

Grabovski will sign somewhere, like mentioned he's getting married, there's no rush to ink a deal today.

If other teams undervalue him too it doesn't make the Leafs any smarter for dumping him.

Just saying that it doesn't look like the reason that teams didn't claim was because they were desperate to add him at a lower cost either.

Yeah, but it's not like if he weren't getting married he'd be out there burning the phonelines down to field offers. That's what agents are for.

I know. But he's likely to say I do to e woman he's marrying before answering the phone to say I do to a team calling.  He'd still have to talk to his agent and decide. If its anything like the last wedding I was at, might not be today.
