Habs @ Leafs - Oct. 8th, 7:00pm - SN, Fan 590

Is Strombo hosting tonight?

I don't know if I'll be able to stomach his stroking of everything the Habs do.

I imagine he'll tone it down for the national broadcasts as I think he's a big hockey fan in general too.

Do people hate Stock? I've always just thought of him as useless.

Definitely not as much as Healy, so maybe hate was the wrong word. But I think people dislike him because he's so useless.

Healy is awful. So anti Leaf it sickens me. I don't honestly know how these people get these jobs!

You do realize you're making Scott Moore's point, don't you?

It's ok because Scott Moore is wrong and obviously an idiot... or at least that's what Bob McCown tells me.

I think Moore would argue that his point is that people not liking those guys draws eyeballs and I don't see anyone saying "Boy I hate Healy, I go out of my way to watch a game just so I can hear how dumb he is".

These guys aren't Cherry, who I think is massively overrated in terms of his ability to draw viewers too, who at least is a fairly semi-regular bet to create controversy. I sincerely doubt anyone has watched a game for them or the atmosphere they create.

I think you're wrong on this one..i think he's anti everyone..he makes a lot of sarcastic comments about players considering he played most of his career as a backup

Rogers Sportsnet president Scott Moore basically admits that Healy and Stock were brought in by SN because they're hated by fans:

?The secret to doing television ? and people on social media don?t really understand this ? is if you liked everybody on the show, it would be a very boring show,? Moore said with a smile.

So tonight when you're complaining about those two being on air, just remember that it's all your fault.

Rumour has it that Sportsnet's first choices of Justin Bieber and Osama Bin Laden were unfortunately unavailable and dead, respectively.

Haha! Yes!

We're talking about him.  And in entertainment, no press is bad press.  Hence the plague that is Miley Cyrus.

I don't agree. I mean, for starters, I'm not sure that a bunch of fans on a message board saying that Healy sucks would qualify as "press" in the strictest sense of the word but more to the point, like I said, there's a difference between controversy and "this isn't very good". I buy that controversy can move the needle, although I think that fatigues pretty quickly without substance behind it, but lots of movies get sunk by bad reviews.

Not to derail the topic or anything. But, the link to ourleafs.blogspot in the OP doesn't work. It says the website is gone.

Thanks, I just threw in whatever was from last season. I think the other two should have it. If anybody else has a stream provider that's decent post it during the game and I'll include them next time.

Lots of talk about Kozun, but really isn't all that we need from that slot is to keep up with Lupes and Kadri?  It's those two that need to power the second line.  If he can be someone to compliment those two guys by keeping up speed-wise and keeping a cycle game going, he's done his job, production will come.

Go Leafs!

Yeah but the last thing we need is a guy who's fast but flubs the puck because his skill level isn't up there. We've seen it a few times in Kadri's career so far that his linemates just aren't good enough to finish his passes.

I think Kozoun is going to be a really nice complement for that line and will just keep getting better. With his speed he is going to open up some ice for Kadri and Lupul. I think his skill level will be just fine. He's a smart player, good passer and handles the puck well. As long as he can handle the tough areas (corners and front of the net), he'll do just fine. Seems pretty determined and some players actually do better at the NHL level than AHL where the game is more scrambled and less structured.

I always love home openers against the Habs. Hopefully a good effort.

Cap hits aside, I really love the look of the third line.

Been away from the boards for a long while. I genuinely hope my enthusiasm for this team returns one day. With that said, and for those of you with enough of it to be charged for tonight, I sincerely hope you're rewarded.

Wishing you a great season and as always,  go Leafs go!

Hey hockey fans, did you think that pre-game presentations didn't have nearly enough of analysts awkwardly figuring out superfluous touch screens and playing around with hockey sticks for some reason?

Cart before horse?

The whole having a letter on your jersey thing is really more about being the team's on-ice rep to the officials more than anything else, and trusting an established vet with something like that is perfectly reasonable.

It was just odd to me... like Hey, would you like to be an assistant captain on our team? Yeah, we don't really care if you're healed for training camp or even assurances that you can get back to how you were before or anything, we just REALLY want you to have the A. Because Leadership!

Well I think they're past the whole healed for training camp thing (with it being over and everything) and having the 'A' doesn't mean he needs to perform at a certain level anymore than it would without one.

It underscores what I view as a questionable signing.

How does it underscore it?  I don't see it as a big deal either way.
Agree to disagree because you've made it quite clear that you disagree.

Tough to beat $3mil for a reliable 2nd pair defenceman. Problem is a) it looks like he won't be used as a 2nd pairing defenceman and b) that 3rd year could really suck.
I don't know if I would define two broken legs in one year as reliable anymore for a guy who's getting older. You have to wonder about the toll on his body going forward.
